8 Flea & Street Markets in Lisbon That You Shouldn't Miss

July 21, 2021 Roger Rusk

The museums of Lisbon celebrate the rich history and culture of this Portuguese capital city. The Maritime Museum is perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who adore all things nautical, while the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is a hidden gem of colorful artwork. To fully appreciate the city’s dramatic stone architecture you can take a guided walking tour, or customize your own tour, making sure to visit the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Torre de Belem.

Perfect Saturday morning stroll, found a number of local artists selling artisanal products, with vegetarian restaurants all around the square. Highly recommended.

Feira da Ladra

A trip to Lisbon is not complete without a visit to one of its famous open-air markets, including one of the most popular called Feira da Ladra or "Thieves Market," which offers a little bit of everything.

Reviewed By Margo7850p

Feira da Ladra in Lisbon is one of the most interesting attractions not only of the Alfama district, but also of the whole of Lisbon. The market takes place on Campo de Santa Clara and there you can find literally everything, from old bottles, through azulejo tiles, used clothes, handmade jewelry, old furniture, vinyl records, to memorabilia from the war or former Portuguese colonies. We will also find a wide selection of souvenirs from Portugal and Lisbon, new CDs and DVDs as well as audio and rtv equipment. The market takes place every Tuesday and Saturday, but Saturday is definitely more turistic. Therefore, definitely, if we want to see the more traditional side of the market, let's go to Feira da Ladra on Tuesday. There are few places that on the one hand have retained their traditional charm, and on the other are an interesting tourist attraction , Feira da Ladra undoubtedly has both of these features. After visiting, we can go to visit Alfama and allow ourselves to get lost in its narrow streets or spend a moment with an aromatic coffee in one of the numerous cafes.
