8 Flea & Street Markets in Ko Samui That You Shouldn't Miss

March 2, 2022 Madelene Haan

Koh Samui was once a Thai fishing community, and that charming sensibility is still present today. Spending time in Bophut is a wonderful way to soak up local culture; the beachy village restaurants and pubs are perfect spots to experience the sunset. There aren’t many other places where you can bask in the camp of a cabaret show and the solemnity of a Buddhist temple. As far as the latter goes, Wat Plai Laem is a magnificent vision of gilded red rooftops and a massive spindly-armed statue of Guanyin.

Asadong Beach Bazaar

I spent Chinese New year with my daughter there. It is not my first time in this resort and it over again didn't disappoint. The Asadong Beach Bazzar evening dinner party was an amazingly enjoyable experience with full range of Thai street food with free flew of soft drinks and beer. I have always wanted to try Thai street food but have been wary of ending up with a funny tummy.. Now this is the best option for me as I could enjoy Thai street food while having assurance of the hygene standard. There was also Thai entertainment all along, but the best part of it is certainly the fire show ! I have seen the fire show in this resort before, but they have ugraded it to a new and even more exciting version. It was spectacular! Definitely the best fire show I have ever seen. Highly recommended!

Nathon Night Food Market

Reviewed By trendyvicar - London, United Kingdom

We stumbled upon this wonderful market on a Tuesday evening when it seems to be the bigger version with food and clothes stalls. There are plenty of marvellous food stalls selling super cheap and fresh pad Thai, spring rolls, fried chicken, fried corn/mushroom/vegetables, fish and seafood, sweet banana pancakes, Thai sweets, coconuts, fruit shakes etc and most of them are delightful. The food seemed to be over by 9pm so if you are eating, get there earlier. Mainly locals with some tourists.

Always stay in Maenam when in Koh Samui, right near the walking street, where they hold a night market on a Mon, Wed and Friday nights, cheapest cocktails, brilliant food options, and lots of products for sale or even barter! its certainly a worthy night out.

Lamai Night Plaza

Reviewed By phuongquach6 - Oakland, United States

This night market, opened on sundays at 5pm, is definitely a place to go. Around 2km or almost 1 mile long of little stands selling anything from delicious foods or toys, clothes, jewelry galore. Bargain if you can for the souvenirs, but really the highlight of this market is the food. Spicy Thai sausages grilled fresh, mouth watering papaya salad, and of course this tea with grass jelly. I recommend going here and you can easily lose yourself for 3 hours.

Chaweng Night Market

Reviewed By fsba20 - Retford, United Kingdom

We walked down to the night market on our 2nd night in Chaweng, it wasn't too busy and it had a great vibe to the place. It's very basic, plastic tables and chairs but the food was fantastic. The menu is extensive! 3 of us are non meat eaters and had this amazing tofu with chillies and chinese salt which was super spicy and really good. You order your drinks separately from one of the 'bars' set up around the side of the tables/chairs. The lady who ran the food side spoke great English and French and was chatting to the customers, recommending dishes and laughing at us sweating with all the chillies! It was our cheapest meal of the holiday and our favourite, infact we all chose to return here for our last night in Ko Samui.
