Rocky Hill - Glastonbury Ferry

Crossing the river on the ferry is a staple of my family. By car or park and go back and forth, either way is a great chance to watch the birds, look at the water, and breathe for a little while.

Chester-Hadlyme Ferry

We have been taking the ferry, often just to go to the other side and back, just to cross the magnificent Connecticut River, to have the air blow in our faces ...to gaze upward to Gillettes Castle... aaaah romance enhanced. For $5 (6 weekends) you can cross the river from Hadlyme to Chester and then drive north about 18 miles to the Rocky Hill Ferry and cross back into Glastonbury and orchard country. Or, for the more adventurous for $2/person go over then $2 to come back just to ride ...oh frabjous joy calloo callay..... Alas, this romance on the Connecticut closes November 30 but reopens in the spring. Do not miss this. We try to do this three season ... Small pleasures small joys ... make life ... aaaah ...

Block Island Express Ferry

The price for the ferry is about $45/person round trip. The crew is efficient in getting people off and on the boat. Additionally, on the return visit the seas were a little rougher and I saw one of the crew spend about 1/2 the ride reassuring a scared younger passenger. The ride last just over an hour and there are plenty of seats inside or a few seats outside. Definitely the best way to get to the Island. Very fast!

I love just going over to Port Jeff from Bridgeport just for the glory of the ride. Sometimes I just buy a round-trip ticket and enjoy the seabreeze without even getting off the ferry, and other times I get off, have a nice seafood lunch, and pop back on for the ride home. It's grand!
