Donegal Castle

This 15th-century castle was fully restored in 1996.

Reviewed By 183TonyM183 - Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

This castle situated near the centre of Donegal Town is a counterpoint to it larger counterparts. A self guided tour takes you through the various parts of the castle providing context at each stop. Displays in the castle itself provide just the right amount information and help you build the historical story. Also, really friendly and helpful staff. It doesn’t cost much, it doesn’t take a long time to go round but it was actually a great activity and time well spent.

Raphoe Castle

Reviewed By 288sin_adm - Letterkenny, Ireland

Although this monument is has not yet been restored it's outer shell (and even chimneys!) remain intact. Although the Castle is now deemed inaccessible and possibly unsafe, there is a very rough dirt path across from the painted wall on Sheep Lane which has been worn down over the years. A camera and walking shoes are advised. It is an important and interesting part of Donegal's history which is worth research.
