Lovely small Flamboyant Gothic Cathedral with an organ and old and new stained glass. You can visit it for free. This church is still in progress and you may assist to a mass. Very much affected by humidity and rain water through the ages. Funds are needed for renovation!

Preferred this to the gallery in Giverny it was under 5 euros to get in and there was lots to see. Paintings by Monet's family of his house and garden, other Impressionists and we especially enjoyed the animal paintings. The old building it is in is delightful.

While we were at a Port of Call, my husband and I had an opportunity to do some sightseeing here in Vernon. The area is a wonder of beautiful architecture and history. According to brochures, "The Town Hall was built at the end of the19th century in the impressive neo-classical style of the time on a newly created square. The city hall faces the collegiate church. The mayor who erected it took care to raise the bell tower higher than the church, because of the rivalry between religious and civil power at that time. On the back, a fine stained-glass window features the king Saint-Louis receiving three bunches of watercress upon his arrival in Vernon. The town's coat of arm has its origin in this story.

My husband and I were touring France on the Seine River Cruise and Vernon was one of our Port of Calls. We did a walking tour of the Notre-Dame Church area which was an architectural delight for us. The church is gothic in design with of course stained glass windows, amazing wood carvings and all the gilt that a church of this century can offer. Pamphlets were available which is always nice to have as a remembrance along with all the photographs one can take. This is truly a must-see as well as the cobblestone walkways.
