In 1758, the Old Barracks was constructed to house British troops during the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary War, the barracks was one of Washington's military hospitals. Today, the building is home to an interpretive museum, galleries, gift shop, and meeting space. Guided tours start on the hour from 10 AM - 4 PM, Monday - Saturday.
My son and I visited on a wintry day and were entirely pleased that we did! The young guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable and patient with all of our comments and questions. He is a reenactor and I was as interested in his clothing as anything else! I didn't realize that the Barracks' original use was during the French and Indian War. The exhibits told the stories of what it was like to be a soldier or officer, and in the apothecary's room, our guide gave a fascinating presentation about the different strain of smallpox and how innoculation of the Continental Army occurred at the site. The receptionist is the gift shop was also helpful and informed! I'll take my grandkids!

This all-purpose museum covers art, archeology and science under one roof.
I have been frequenting this museum from the time I was a child on school trips, with my mother, and continue to with my children even now who are young adults and solo. Always something amazing to view with local artists exhibiting and often New Jersey themed installations honoring its residents. Great for children as well as adults. I suspect this is a hidden gem as well. The permanent exhibit of art on the upper floors, adjacent to the dinosaurs is absolutely amazing. Even thought it is a small assortment, the art and furniture are still impressive. Highly recommend for any one who is looking for something to do!

The seat of the New Jersey state government. Inspiring citizens since 1792 The New Jersey State House – discover the state’s most historic public building.
Take the free tour and learn a lot about this state's capital (the building itself is different than the US Capitol!) Lotsa history here, and for Capital Collectors, the stamp is at the tour lectern. Recommended.

A knowledgeable guide take you on a tour of the Trent House providing history and unknown facts of life during the period when William Trent built the home. I highly recommend this museum tour of the home. It is filled with period furniture and artifacts which make my heart swoon! It's also a great place to take classes of any age on a tour. As a college professor,I think the Trent House is overlooked as a great place to bring students.
