The Scottish Maritime Museum is based in the west of Scotland, with sites in Irvine and Dumbarton. At these two sites, the Museum holds an important nationally recognised collection, encompassing a variety of historic ships, artefacts, shipbuilding machinery, machine tools, and fascinating personal items. Many of these exhibits can be found inside the Linthouse Building in Irvine, a unique Grade A listed, 19th-century historic building known as the Linthouse Engine Shop 'Cathedral of Engineering and at the Denny Tank in Dumbarton, the world's first commercial ship model experiment tank.
What a wonderfull museum, what an interesting visit. We spent hours wandering and had a lovely guided tour with Abi. She was informative and we shared stories of living in a tenement. We are from Ayrshire but did not appreciate the history of Irvine harbour. The museum itself had great exhibits, each with good photos and explanations of the role Scotland played in revolutionising world shipping. The atmosphere changed as the evening outside darkened, wonderfull. We will be back. Irvine harbour are itself is so intersesting with bars, cafes and an Arts Centre. The Puffer Cafe was welcoming with a doorman opening the door for us. 5 star day.

Eglinton park is a lovely place to go walking and running in. There are lots of paths and interesting things to see. Follow it up with a visit to the cafe for tea/coffee and one of their cakes.

We popped in here Sat lunchtime in the off chance there was space. We were delighted to have a table for 4, enjoyed the soups/sandwich combos, panini and burgers. Lovely cakes and lots of options for dietary restrictions. Such friendly, attentive staff- even with it being so busy and the other COVID restrictions. We’ll definitely go back soon... esp for the cakes!

A meal out with friends with a good selection of dishes to choose from. European dishes and some from further for the more adventurous.

creepy crawlies is an indoor soft play centre which include coin operated quad bikes. We have a great cafe with lots of snacks hot and cold also delicious hot meals for adults and children .
Started coming to Creepy Crawlies with my 4 year old Granddaughter. She loves it. Good size for her. Not too big like some of the places where she can feel a bit insecure. Happy to go off & find a wee friend or 2. Leaves us adults time for a cuppa, cake & blether. Menu is excellent & staff are always happy to help. New coffee goes down a treat & can highly recommend the Mars Bar Crispy Cake. Great place to go & chill while wee ones tire themselves out.

Lovely beach with some stunning sunsets on certain nights! The stone dragon located on one of the hills was great to sit by whilst I watched the sunset!

Recently I started going back to Irvine shopping mall. I love Pep &Co, Freckletons and Primark. If you go through the week it's a lot quieter and it gives you plenty of time to browse. I also like it, as unlike Glasgow, you don't need to pay for parking (although there is a time limit ) There are also plenty of pound shops. It's quite unbelievable what you can pick up for a pound, although shoppers beware something's in pound world, pound land are not all one pound. There are plenty of clothes shops there, all under one roof and it saves a dreary drudge round a rainy Glasgow. So go on treat yourself to a new blouse etc I'm sure you deserve it !
