English Version Costas Apostolakis was born in the village of Nochia Kissamou. A village where the art of pottery was flourishing for centuries. He received his first knowledge from his father and grandfather and started to craft his own ceramics at the age of eight. He has studied in the Art School of Athens and Graduated in 1968. With a total of five years of experience in workshops and another ten years of teaching the art of pottery to children with special needs in the art school of Chania he started running his first workshop in Kissamou Street. After 14 years in the city center, he moved to the coastal village of Maleme and he has been working and creating ceramics there ever since. He has received a number of Laudations from art festivals in Crete and Athens and the original handcrafts have been aprooved by EOMMEX (association for small businesses with handmade products) and therefore carry the stamp of authenticity. In the Maleme workshop you can find one of the richest in colours, crafts and sizes collection of handmade ceramics in Crete. All created with non-toxic and environment friendly materials and colours, glazed and double-baked for maximum endurance and quality. Apostolakis Ceramics have been exported over the years to the United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, South Sweden, Israel and have been used in Restaurants, Galleries, Family run Businesses as well as Festivals. We are open daily from April until the end of October. It would be a pleasure to meet and guide you through our collection and history in order to share the love we have for this art. This small museum, tucked away beside the Catholic Church, near the port area, is very well worth a visit. It packs into three or four small rooms items that show Cretan life until the very recent past. The memorabilia are fascinating and well laid out. The curator works on site, using an old sewing machine to produce elaborate tapestries of historical scenes, which adorn one small room. At 2 euros entrance, it is delightful and very informative.

Welcome to Verekinthos Arts & Crafts village! In keeping with the long tradition of craftsmanship in our region, in 2000 we created “Verekinthos”, which is a model environment for reviving and sustaining the arts which have always been an integral part of Cretan life and culture. At "Verekinthos" we run silversmith’s and goldsmith’s as well as workshops for ceramics, sculpture, glass making, hagiography, painting, leather, fabric and textile applications, wood working, decorative objects and traditional musical string instruments. We also run workshops and classes for pottery, painting, sewing and textile art. Upon visiting you will be able to explore approximately 10 workshops which are open on a daily basis, meet the artists while they create and also, find a variety of local handmade and unique traditional and modern artwork. We are looking forward to welcoming you!
