Stately century-old Cape Dutch manor home in the shade of a giant oak tree, with 1 guest bed-sitting room with large ensuite, and 3 spacious guest suites with ensuites and kitchenettes. Also, our home restaurant, Her Majesteas Salon (NOTE: we've listed it as anew, as we're unable to claim & manage that original listing as Tripadvisor responses are automated with zero help centre to call).
A Special family gathering which was executed far above any expectations. Dina and the team has turned our get-together and birthday celebration of our dad into a wonderful evening full off special memories that not be forgotten. Thanks.

Heidelberg’s ideal location on the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban, only 50km from Johannesburg, 40km from the Johannesburg international airport, 50km from the Vaal river and makes it readily accessible to and indeed part of, the entire Gauteng, the heart land of South Africa. The town has excellent medical facilities, caters for all religious denominations, has 5 shopping centres and boasts an exceptional range of sporting and recreational facilities. Heidelberg sits nestled at the eastern end of the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, a large tract of land that is home to Gautang’s highest point, almost 2000 meters above sea level. Heidelberg developed as a typical rural Victorian town. Any buildings dating back to the period between 1890 and 1910 have been preserved. In addition, Heidelberg was home to G Visser a well loved medical doctor and famous Afrikaans poet. His home only open to the public by appoint, can still be seen situated close to the main road through town and our neighbours!
Disruptive Caretaker!! We were woken up before 7am by the caretaker having a loud conversation with his girlfriend and a friend. They were in the room next door and the friend was in the corridor with the door half open. His voice echoed through the entire place and woke everyone up. When I went to ask them to keep it down, there was no apology, they simply closed the door and kept going with the laughing and loud conversations. It went on for an hour! So rude and don’t care about the guests. Won’t ever come back here …also the door handle isn’t secured and the bathroom light doesn’t work. The price changed from what the lady said on the phone to what the caretaker charged us ok arrival. Not worth the money.

After a lengthy trip from Australia this was our first night in South Africa. The stern lady that checked us on told us breakfast wasn't available to us as we were only overnight guests and they were always trouble and wrote bad reviews. The room was spacious and comfortable. The parking was secure and off the street. The place was pretty quiet. It would have been good if the bin had been emptied from the previous guests as it wasn't pleasant looking at someone else's underwear.

A wonderful place to recharge your batteries. Set in a beautiful garden on the banks of a river. Wake up to birds singing and enjoy your morning coffee at the river's edge. Added to this Lettie and Dirk were perfect hosts and the accommodation catered for every need.

Reception took three quarter hours (we were the only ones there), due to the receptionist not trained to handle bookings for the Duiker unit, which is on a different premise. The unit we were supposed to occupy (according to their system), was vacated the previous day and has not been cleaned yet. We then got another unit at that same premise, but the receptionist couldn't direct us to the premises, nor is there a map. Because of pronunciation it was difficult to get the address from her. With some guesswork and GPS we found the place. On entering the first impression was clean, but dusty (it was probably not used for some time). The security gate to the patio, wouldn't open - there is probably some trick to how one is supposed to turn the key, but we couldn't discover the trick. No wine glasses. The rest of the utensils were not really enough for 4 people, but we could make do. Toilet paper was just enough for one sitting (we managed to get some from elsewhere). The geyser was switched off, resulting in discomfort that I won't describe. (Start with the fact that you have to work out, why there is no warm water in the shower...). The cups/glasses to be used when brushing teeth, was dirty and one of them fitted with the blade cover of a razor. The next day, we were really surprised. The unit was not supposed to be serviced, because of Covid, so one leaves some stuff lying around that would otherwise not be the case. Coming back from visiting Heidelberg attractions, we discovered the unit was serviced, while we were away. What the sanitising position was during the cleaning exercise, we will never know. Even my spouse's bag was reorganised. Most interesting is that the razor cover was still in the bathroom glass... The beds are fitted with some comforter thingy, but no top sheet, meaning you sleep under the same comforter that others slept before us and in one room, there were signs that it was not cleaned since previous use.
