I stayed at the Ibis Belval for the Capital of Culture event for 10 days. I want to thank the staff at the hotel for being attentive, friendly and polite. This was especially invaluable as Belval is not big on dietary options for people that are dairy and wheat intolerant. The staff ordered different milks and bread for me and there was always enough. I had a lot of issues with food in Belval but Arnaud and the team made sure I had a good breakfast, which is so important when you are there for work. The young man on the night staff even filled up my hot water bottle for me before bed which was such a lovely gesture when I was exhausted after a day of working the event. My only gripe is that I was itchy during the whole stay at Belval and many of the others in my team also said they had red eyes or itchiness, we think maybe it was the detergent used for laundry, the rooms however were impeccably clean and the house keeping team was respectful and friendly. Thanks so much for the hospitality.

This charming hotel prides itself on the relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and gourmand cuisine. The 15 rooms surrounded by greenery are quite, with highly comfort standard, personalised, warmly decorated and with a magical atmosphere. We do have a spa area to relax with a luxurous Hammam and a restaurant with a cuisine classic and creative, based exclusively on fresh seasonal quality marked products.
The room and the hotel location are great, lovely park nearby. Every time we needed something from reception from check in to check out we had to go and find someone from the restaurant, and we also had difficulty paying. Considering the price, I would expect better.

a hearty welcome by friendly and helpful staff. The double room was spick and span (apart from the mattress, a bit old I presume). On the street and very quiet ( pedestrian area). Ideal to go to Rockhall for a concert (what we did) - the bus stop is down the road.

The room I was initially allocated was very very tiny. As I had booked for 6 nights, I kindly asked the receptionist to re-allocate me in another room. I had booked a room with double bed and the room I was given had only one twin bed and still there was no space to move. The receptionist was very helpful and changed the room in a double bed room as booked, immediately when I shared my concern. I could not make the change in the first night because there was not any receptionist on Sunday after 8 pm. We were given the keys by a person living at the building in front of the hotel. The rooms were generally clean. Two of my colleagues in the same trip were allocated spacious rooms. There was a bottle of water everyday, which was very helpful given that the shops closed by 6pm in Esch. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast very good.

Brand new youth hostel in Esch-sur-Alzette. Located right next to the train station, it is perfectly accessible by public transportation. The Belval campus of Luxembourg University as well as Luxembourg's largest music venue, the Rockhal, are just a few minutes away.
Good points: new facilities, ensuite bathroom and toilet, clean, cheap for Luxembourg. Bad points: beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable, the street below is noisy until 3 a.m. and with closed windows it's too hot in summer, with no air conditioning at all. The staff seems to find it very hard to make a single smile, and they seem to have little interest for customer satisfaction. When asked for a refund, after just checkin in, paying and finding out the accommodation was not as expected, I was immediately denied it. I understood that it was not possible to refund the first two nights, but denying refund for the others is simply unacceptable. Well, that's what not only reception staff but also the manager did, after ignoring my email, when I phoned two days after. That's just a pirate attitude, and definitely not the way to run a hostel, teaching employees not to make a simple refund when it was clear that my expectations were not met. House rules would have been respected by charging the first two nights but denying the rest was just unfair. I appreciated that there was some effort to provide a different solution, but the fact that my main request - immediate refund - was denied, and the fact that I immediately understood that this was a clear instruction from above (too many complaints?) makes for a solid 1 star.
