Located in the heart of the Aoraki Mount Cook Village our accommodation is designed to meet the needs of the budget conscious traveller whilst providing the highest standard of service, cleanliness and comfort. We have 16 ensuite rooms, 24 hr onsite management, reception open 830am-800pm daily with 24hour check in available. Free WiFi is included in the room rate as is free off street parking onsite.
For a prime tourist spot this motel is well below par in terms of basics. Briefly, no electric blankets, no plug in hand basin, torn curtains, bedside light not working, TV had no reception, no heated towel rail which meant we used all 4 towels instead of just one, and being really picky - budget cutlery. This property is not up g to speed for our all-important tourism industry, even if it is meant to be budget - it is still below par. On the positive side, the very hardworking lady in reception was patient and helpful in the extreme.

From an intrepid journey through glacial valleys to a mouth-watering culinary dining adventure, the Hermitage Hotel is the perfect 'base camp' to discover your Peak Experience. Choose from premium hotel rooms, motel units or cozy chalets. Add world-class activities such as Glacier Explorers, Tasman Valley 4WD Tours, Big Sky Stargazing, Encounter Day Walks, scenic flights or the visual extravaganza of the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and you have a unique, year-round alpine adventure perfect for the family holiday or your next romantic getaway.
We stayed at The Hermitage for it's iconic location and great views of Aoraki and the neighboring mountains. It's one of my favorite places to be. We stayed in standard rooms which were conveniently close to everything in the hotel and had a nice view. The facilities are very basic. The staff were friendly and helpful but it is clear they are run off their feet and the hotel is understaffed. Not their fault, more people just don't exist and visitor numbers are significantly down especially mid week. The buffet is the only dinner option, but the cafe is good until 4pm and reasonably priced. Breakfast buffet is good *if* you get there early in the service window.

We had a pleasant stay here in a 1 bedroom motel unit. These were clean, modern, attractive accommodations that were much more reasonably priced than the Hermitage. Our motel unit had a kitchenette that was well-stocked with coffee and tea; a comfortable living room with a sofa, dining table, patio, and full size bed; a bedroom with a full-size bed and full length mirror; and a bright, modern, well-lit bathroom that had plenty of towels and toiletries. The only downsides were a bit of mildew on the bathroom ceiling, and the fact that housekeeping did not wash our dirty dishes when cleaning the room. Overall, we had a nice stay here, and were so glad we chose to stay here rather than the Hermitage up the hill, which was more than twice the price.

Very scenic campground. Gorgeous views when the weather is good. Staff were very friendly, easy late checkout in process. Campground itself - we stayed on a non powered site. A lot of the ground in this area looked undulating but it wasn’t busy so we found a flat spot very easily. Kitchen - great collection of cooking and eating equipment for guest use. Amazing big outdoor BBQ and picnic table area. Bathrooms - appear to have been recently updated and are some of the best campground bathrooms I’ve used. Good shower pressure. Clean. Even a wee hairdryer you can use. We would stay here again We would stay here
