This is a lodge and is on a room only basis but all rooms have a microwave and a mini fridge located close to the mainline railway station servicing London Liverpool Street and Colchester General Hospital and also very close to Western Homes football stadium. There is ample parking and free wifi unlimited. Not only are there plenty of excellent pubs, restaurants and take-aways walking distance from The Railway Sleeper Lodge. Historic Colchester town offers much more. There are numerous activities such as visting Colchester Castle, the superb Castle Park as well as many other landmark buildings you would expect to find in Britain's oldest recorded town.
The room that was available to me was comprised of two adjoining rooms with three narrow single beds. The beds were screwed to the floor, I assume this was to prevent them being pushed together. The mattresses were of medium firmness and comfortable The room had a microwave, a small fridge and a TV with freeview. Tea and coffee making facilities and bottles of water were included. There was a hot powerful shower, the cubical had orange mold covering the grouting, which while not dangerous should be addressed. There are no staff on site but clear instructions were given for checking in. There were several parking spaces to the rear of the property.

The hotel is in an excellent location and rooms at the front overlook the estuary. We were in room 1 with a great view. The room was large with a good sized bathroom and an excellent shower. Staff (Chelsea/Harrison and colleagues) were all very helpful. Breakfast was great with a variety of choices. It is a pub with rooms rather than a hotel and the bar/beer garden inevitably get busy, it looks a little tired in the communal area. Parking is very easy in the dedicated car park. The hotel is ideal for a short break and the oyster bars/sailing club etc are a very short walk from the Victory.

Located in the heart of this ancient town historic this Georgian property with onsite parking is only steps from the shops, restaurants, castle, pool/leisure centre. MercuryTheatre, First Site Exhibition Hall and The Zoo nearby. Tranquil and characterful rooms have wifi, TV and hospitality tray. Close to main line station and buses, hospital and only 15 mins to West Mersea.
Had a delightful short stay here in July 2021. The host was cheerful & made me feel welcome and at home here, she even poured me a glass of wine on arrival! The room was very comfortable, full of character, antique style fittings but with all modern comforts including a big TV. I would recommend Baye House to anyone looking for a superior accommodation for a very reasonable price.

Two beautiful, individually furnished bedrooms, each with en suite facilities, are now available. Tastefully renovated and refurbished, they offer views over the rooftops of old Wivenhoe and a flavour of the pub's romantic and nautical past. A perfect stopover after a pub meal in the bar, and conveniently located for visitors to Wivenhoe and the University of Essex.
I had heard from a friend about the delights of The Black Buoy and was not disappointed. It is a pub owned by the community and it feels like a community. The food was good, punctual and hot. When I asked for strong coffee, I got it. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows - often disappointing, were perfect. The stairs up to the rooms were a challenge for anyone with mobility issues but worth the effort. All of the staff were helpful and friendly and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. We loved it!

We had an excellent stay. Our room was absolutely beautiful and spotless clean. The bed was very comfortable. Loved the little welcome gift and the pizzas downstairs too, absolutely amazing food and cocktails. I would definitely recommend it and can’t wait to come back..the parking was about five minutes walk.
