Iv been on a few horse treks in NZ, but this one far outweighs them all! Chris was a brilliant instructor and helped my husband who has never ridden a horse learn to ride well. My husband absolutely loved it. Such beautiful scenery too!

Mt Cheeseman is a friendly ski area that promotes a fun, family environment in an alpine setting. Cheeseman is the just 90 minutes (99km) drive from Christchurch. The mountain has a sunny aspect with groomed runs and off-piste terrain catering for all abilities. We have two T-bar lifts that provide access to the whole mountain and a learners’ rope tow in a dedicated learners’ area. For adventurers looking for untracked trails and off-piste experiences, Mt Cockayne offers challenging skiing and fantastic views of the Craigieburn Range. Cheeseman has a range of services and facilities including two accommodation lodges.

The closest ski area to Christchurch City, Porters is a family focused business with a complete range of ski and snowboard terrain to suit all abilities. It’s so easy to do – the closest ski area to Christchurch, an easy access road, fantastic learner slopes and a mountain of terrain for experts. Significant investment in snowmaking, snow-fencing and grooming helps ensure fantastic snow conditions.

We loved our stop at this sheep farm which was included a part of the TranzAlpine day long tour. The farm owners Trevor and Heather gave us such a fascinating look at their farm and farm life, including a sheep shearing and mustering demonstration. We enjoyed learning about the various wools and their processing. We also appreciated the tea and cookies and made purchases at their small shop of sweaters and woolens. After traveling through New Zealand we wished we had shopped more at the farm.
