Parque Aiken del Sur

...my shops were closed. The stores linked to corporate owners were made to look like mini fortresses due to recent political unrest in Chile. We're told the siesta is still observed but in 20019 Chile it's tough to view this as enlightened policy.

Laguna San Rafael

The hotel is run by the fame US company that also runs the catamaran that takes you to the San Rafael glacier. Customer service was perfect. Food was great. Rooms spacious and spotless. We stayed two nights. We arrived around 6pm, had diner in the bar area (we skipped the buffet). The food was good. The next day we first had a great breakfast and at 7am the tour to the glacier started. In the catamaran they again gave us breakfast and, later, lunch. The trip to the glacier takes about 5 hours. Then, 2 hours at the glacier where they take you in small zodiac boats close to the glacier. We saw a leopard seal lounging on a small iceberg about 15 feet from us. On the way back they give you whiskey with ice from the glacier and diner. Overall, excellent.

Patagonia National Park

Reviewed By adcdiving - Antwerp, Belgium

We decide to drive down the Carretera Austral a little further south with breathtaking views of the bright blue turquoise water of the Rio Baker with behind it snowy mountain peaks or deep green forests. A wonderful ride. After an hour's drive, we reach the Chacabuco Valley and the Patagonia National Park (free entry). Here too we see beautiful panoramas, but also various groups of guanacos (nephews of the Peruvian lama) and majestic condors that slide with their large wings on the air thermics. Beautiful!
