I discovered Lyon as a computer scientist. After years stuck behind a desk in an office, in 2017, I created LyonExplorer and became a guide. That was the best way to satisfy my passion for traveling and for my city/region. And it worked very well. People loved it. Now, I’m guiding people throughout the secrets of Lyon and its countryside and I’m the happiest man in the world !

This restored medieval village is well worth a visit if you're into history and architecture. The streets and lanes are all paved with cobblestones and most of the houses are built with stone. It's impossible to get lost as the main street is circular. It's based around a town square with a 200yo linden tree. And some nice restaurants. Take the time to visit the museum - only 5 euro - not least so you have the chance to climb the tower which gives great views over the village roofs and the surrounding countryside. It's one of those places where it's impossible to take a bad photo.

Inside there are distinctive differences from just any stone church because it is also an integrate part of this town's fortification against invasion along with most of the town's residential and commercial buildings. The story of it construction and dual function as a place of worship and defense is unusual.

In a magnificent building of the Princes of Savoy (14th - 15th centuries), the visitor immerses himself in the local history and culture. From the product of archaeological excavations to contemporary art exhibitions, the path of the museum of old Perouges illustrates different facets of everyday life and craft: old bressan furniture, household items, faience of Meillonas, medieval gardens.

The shop "atelier-boutique sl - art + design" of the ceramist artist and designer saskia lauth is situated in the heart of the medieval city of perouges. Here she realizes, exposes and sells her unique ceramics: sculptures (portraits, nudes), decoration (vases, planters, candle sticks), tableware (plates, dishes, cups), bathroom accessories (soap dishes, gobelets), jewellery (pendants, rings)...

My husband and I stopped here for a map and other information for the Village of Perouges. We were on a walking tour and wanted to make sure we got an indepth experience of the area. The staff was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Only charge was approximately .20e for the map. It was quite detailed with beautiful pictures. It is a DO NOT MISS place. There are also restrooms on the premises.
