ovre Verket reprents one of the most important culturally historic places from the years of industrialization in Norway. The redwashed wooden houses were built in the early 1800s as living quarters for workers in the Ulefoss Ironworks. ovre Verket Handverkstun is found in Ulefoss, in the Nome municipality. It is near the center of Ulefoss and within walking distance from the Telemark Canal, Ulefoss locks, Ulefoss Hovegard (historical residence) and the Ulefoss dock. At ovre Verket you'll find antiques, a bunad workshop, frame workshop, and textile art as well as work from other artisans, and also a restaurant and gallery. We have a market and activities throughout the year. The following are also located here: Strikk & sann, Nome antikvariat, Loppebutikk, Rammeverksted, Ciara design, Handarbeidsloftet, Ingrid & Emma, Museumsleilighet, ovre Verket Spiseri og Galleri.
The iron and canal exhibition displays the history of the development of the Telemark canal, from prior to its inception all the way to the present day. The exhibition also displays the production of iron in the Ulefos Ironworks, the oldest ironworks in Norway which is still operating. See how iron was cast in the old days and read about the unique minerals and rocks in Fensfeltet. Group tours can be arranged by contacting tourist information.
