One of the best small museums I've experienced in a long time, containing mementoes from astronaut Gus Grissom, who grew up in nearby Mitchell. Even if you're not a huge fan of the space program (which I am; hence my visit), this is definitely worth a stop. Kudos to the State of Indiana for providing the space and staff for this great tribute.

Spring Mill has become a favorite get away spot for my wife and I. Though about an hour's drive from Louisville metro we usually figure out an excuse to get there a couple of times or more each year. When out of town company comes in, it also makes a great gift to buy an overnight stay package for them. Reading other reviews reminded me that apparently not everyone sees this place through our eyes. The Inn is our favorite. It has a rustic, classy elegance that maybe some see differently. When we drive into the park the tall arched trees over the road offers a peace and respite from our otherwise sometimes hectic lives. There is much to do in the inn itself. There is ping pong and some video games for the younger ones, relaxing nooks and crannies in the down stairs lounge area to read, play family board games or work puzzles and an indoor/outdoor pool for all. For special occasions there is a stylish new wing for nice sized parties or wedding receptions. The rooms are generally not luxurious--like you would expect to find in a Hilton chain, etc--but the private, peaceful beauty of forest, flowers and lake are often not available with those hotels either. This is different. This is unique. Some have been renovated and all have their own rustic charm. We also love the restaurant and especially the buffet. It is comfort food all the way and an amazing selection of desserts while, if you are lucky, you can watch wild birds coming to the feeder on the window sill almost within arms reach. A splendid rock fire place also adds a warmth and charm to the dining experience. With the pioneer village, awesome hiking trails, camping sites, beautiful picnic areas, large swimming pool for campers, Gus Grissom Memorial, Nature Center, cave exploration, ancient historic cemetery, authentic rock fences, and more there is there is always new things to discover and old memories to relive. For those with eyes to see it, this place is amazing!!

Had the opportunity to visit the boyhood home of Mr. Grissom. What a fantastic experience that turned out to be, spent well over an hour with 2 gentlemen, Steve and Anthony (Tony) who had a vast knowledge of Gus's career, relatives and friends of the family. There were a lot more original pieces in the house that belonged to the Grissoms than I had anticipated. Their interest of the Grissom name and personal involvement in the community ended up being the highlight of my trip to Mitchell. If you are interested in history, space or just want to learn something about a small town boy who followed his dreams and made them a reality then I would not hesitate to stop by the house and take a stroll back in time to this magical, quaint home. The museum is open every Saturday from 11a - 3p during certain months of the year, go check it out and enjoy this unknown piece of American history.

15 July 2020 I’m not sure I want to review The Carousel Winery! Social Media is such a powerful tool and I love the Carousel just the way it is. I don’t want it overrun with thousands of people. The Carousel Winery is: Quiet, Private, Intimate, Charming. Sue and Marion are just the best Americans I have met in such a long time. I was fortunate to get to visit with them privately for a little over an hour and felt like I had become great friends with them and had known them for many years. It was quite by chance that I came to even interact with them and I do mean chance! You see, I live in Arizona, 1600 miles from The Carousel Winery. I was told about it by a colleague while dinning as a guest at his house in Illinois a week earlier. He mentioned the Carousel Winery as a place he and his wife had visited a year before. I, being the awful guest that I am, had not brought a gift for my hosts and vowed that I would rectify my oversight. A quick search on the internet revealed worldwide awards for many of their various wines. I called ahead to ensure that they would be open and was elated to find out that the WATERMELON wine was in stock! Sue warned me that the watermelon, and indeed all of their wines, routinely sell out in a matter of days. I took the opportunity to secure a case of the watermelon wine. Unfortunately, I was about a week and a half too early for the blueberry and blackberry stock to be ready. I plan on gifting the watermelon wine to close and dear friends. Getting there: I used google maps directions to find the place and was laser beamed to my destination. I would NOT have been able to get there otherwise. I believe that a new friendship was forged with Sue and Marion and I intend to keep in touch as long as we can.
