At a recent June stay at the Buck House Inn B&B we spent an afternoon up at Big Bald. At the base of the climb up to Big Bald (an easy hike by the way) is the Appalachian Trail. We chose to hike a few miles on the trail before going up to the top of Big Bald. Beautiful pastures, gorgeous mountain views and thick mountain foliage greeting our eyes. A few small deers popping up during our walk just goes to indicate how peaceful this place was. Highly recommended for anyone in the area.

Sebastiaan and Ariel Zijp met through their love of old-time music festivals, cooking, farming and adventures. They fell in love and bought a 150 year old farm house on 2 acres in the mountains of Madison County, North Carolina. They tilled up their lawn, built garden beds, planted flowers, herbs, fruit trees and vegetables and started raising chickens, ducks, rabbits and honeybees. They pride themselves on following sustainable and organic practices and living and learning from the land. Through this growing interest in the simple life, they formed The Farmer's Hands Homestead. Sebastiaan’s passion is food. He grew up in his parents kitchen, helping cook and keeping them entertained with stories, tales, and jokes. As he grew older he was able to help cook more and entertain while in the kitchen. Sebastiaan makes his home kitchen feel like his parents kitchen; full of warmth, laughter, love, and of course, food.

Enjoy premier skiing and snowboarding, long range views, mountain top lodging, and playful snow tubing at Wolf Ridge Resort.
Save a lot by going during the week. Rent your equipment down the road at wolf den and get a reduced rate when renting consecutive days. Bring your lunch and this becomes a very affordable adventure. Need 4 wheel drive if it’s snowing. Book outside of 24hours online on busy days so they don’t reach capacity before you get there. Drop your equipment off at the front then go park so you don’t need to carry everything to the ski area from the parking lot. It can be a hike especially if you don’t arrive in advance. We had an absolute blast and the medics were super helpful and friendly and made sure everyone was safe and there was plenty of them around. I recommend the group ski lessons for first timers. My boys 7 & 11 did great after they got warmed up. We will be back. ????????
