I wanted so much to see this but my camper would not make it up 14a from Lovell. I had to turn around 9 miles short. 8-10 degrees hills were rough. I found a great museum display on Work and and would like to share here.

Our visit to the area was to the Yellowtail Dam Visitor Center.
The ranger was very informative and friendly, chatty too. On the day of our visit, except for us, she probably qualified for “lonely pay” i. e., not too many visitors.
Typically, the visitor center had exhibits of the construction of the dam, the geology of the area, a history of Robert Yellowtail, Crow Tribal Leader for whom the dam is named, the history of Bighorn River and Bighorn Lake. There is also a bookstore. We saw a very informative film following the construction of the dam. Out the back is a great view of the dam and the spillway below.
The views from the dam of the river below as it flows out into the valley are spectacular.
Yellowtail Visitor Center is rather remote, unless you have plenty of time, like we do, it might be something you’d want to connect to camping or fishing. Just visiting the visitor center, you aren’t likely to see too much of the flora and fauna.
The visitor center here is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

Scenic boat tours styled in an eco-tour format with narration from professionally licensed captains exclusively in the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Come learn about this pristine and ancient land that boasts of having the "oldest trail" in North America. Archealogically speaking, this Recreation Area has more history of ancient human habitation and prehistoric creatures than Yellowstone Park. See this hidden treasure for yourself.
Until a few weeks ago I had never heard of this place before much know that it is the third largest canyon in the US. There were 8 in our group and we all thoroughly enjoyed the two hour tour up to Devil's Canyon. Captain...MoreIt was a pleasure to have you guys on board. Cheers. Capt. Mark

The Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center is dedicated to preserving and protecting the wild horses of the Pryor Mountains. A stop at the Mustang Center will give visitors information about the horses, their Spanish heritage, and best places to view the horses in their native Pryor Mountain home. The Mustang Center can help set you up with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the top of the mountain with PryorWild Mustang Tours.
If you even just like horses, this day will be one you talk about forever. Our visit started with a wealth of information from Lynda Nichols in the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center. It seems she's always there and was instrumental in building the Center.
This was followed by the tour with Nancy and Steve. It's a long arduous ride up to Pryor Mountain in their 4WD vehicles (and back down) but well worth those hours bouncing over rocks. During the several hours on the mountain we saw 132 of the 151 Mustangs and learned about the coat colors and work done to protect them. We saw playful and serious challenges between Stallions and saw them protect their mares. We watched them go down to a pond to drink, one band at a time, steering clear of other bands. The first colts were born in the days following our mid-July visit so we missed that but enjoyed the photos posed on the Center's Facebook page.
While eating the great lunch provided by Nancy and Steve, one small band walked by and into the pines less than 100' from the picnic site. The horses are accustomed to spectators, but nevertheless are completely wild and numerous times we were escorted back into the vehicles or to the opposite side when some curious Mustangs got too close or a stallion was preoccupied with defending his mares.
Don't avoid this trip because it's a hot day in Lovelle. The horses are at the top of Pryor Mountain in summer and it's never uncomfortably hot up there. In fact, do take a layer or two.
Don't be surprised to see a bighorn sheep or a bear on the ride up!

After driving the beautiful but white knuckle experience of the canyon on 14 we decided to forgo the visitors center which was off of 14a and even more thrilling with even more hair pin turns to get there. Once down 8000 feet we found a straight and flat way to get here. This is an underused visitor center in Lowell, Wyoming . ( there are two visitor centers. The other is in fort smith, Montana). We arrived at 445 and I had to change the date stamp for the nps passport program. Some great displays. Would have been nice if the two rangers there might have stopped their personal conversation to say hello since I am wondering if they had any visitors that day. A little effort makes bug impressions. There was a nice garden with markers and a huge tepee inside. Go. Worth the stop

Take an exciting ride to the top of the Pryors. We'll see the mustangs that some say are linked back to Cortez, as told by singer Ian Tyson's "La Primira." The home of the stallion Cloud, made famous by producer Ginger Kathrens, as she chronicled his life in the wild. Fantastic views of the horses in the wild and breathtaking scenery. A must see for every horse lover. A true western adventure.
We had numerous stops in Wyoming and Montana, and this was arguably the best. We loved the Beartooth Highway, Yellowstone (Our fourth visit) and Little Bighorn, but this was better - A full day of unique, scenic, educational and exciting novelty! Steve and Nancy have great knowledge of the entire Pryor Mountain herd, and they are passionate about the horses. My wife and I both noticed that, confronted with two new foals, Nancy was like a little kid at Christmas. Because of their knowledge and love of what they do, Steve and Nancy got us to the very best sites for viewing the horses. By the end of the day, we had opportunities to see/photograph about 48 horses (Sighting numbers vary from trip to trip and are entirely dependent on the horses. The most special sight for me was probably Mica, son of the stallion Cloud.
If you go - and you really should - bring clothing for weather/temperature changes, binoculars, and cameras. They take care of water, snacks and lunch. This is an all-day adventure, but the time flies by! Given the experience and the all-day tour, I would say that the cost is very reasonable.

Being able to spend real quality time with family while getting creative and having fun was awesome. There are so many options of things to do and they have a great calendar of classes and events that make me a little sad that I want staying in town longer. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and they gave great guidance so that we would be happy with what we created. I really appreciated that he was able to rush the turnaround time and get our pieces finished before we left town. I want everyone in Lovell and the surrounding towns to know about this place. It's a true gem and a great idea for dates, parties, or just because. Thank you!
