Explore Northern Ireland’s royal residence. Located just 20 minutes from Belfast, the restored and re-imagined Hillsborough Castle and Gardens has something for everyone. Inside the castle, discover the fascinating history of the re-presented State Rooms still used by the royal family. Enjoy delicious food and drink in our relaxing café and explore 100 acres of beautiful gardens, including the newly-restored Walled Garden, the previously unseen Lost Garden, meandering waterways and picturesque glens.
Excellent guided tour of this working Royal Palace - wonderful art displays, beautifully presented rooms, lots of photographs, artefacts and stories which tell the history of this beautiful Royal Palace. We also took some time walking around the beautiful 100acre gardens first established in the 1700’s, including impressive tree lined walks, a lake, hidden garden and a recently restored walled garden

Got a carry out snack as a treat. Service was excellent, and the food was delicious. Asked while ordering if there was anywhere nearby we could find a area we could sit out. Was directed toward Hillsbrough forest. When food was bagged up for us, we were given a loan of proper cutlery, ( in napkins) , and salt and pepper pots. Not too many places are that accommodating, or indeed trusting. Brilliant food, even better service, and with the open fire lit , a brilliant, socially distanced, homely atmosphere.. Will definitely plan a return. Thank you ????????????????

There are about three ways into the Fort area. The main area is hectic and despite building a new car park you may need to park on the main road and walk in. Up the hill, opposite the the Royal building there is a gate to an avenue leading to the fort and lake and park,if you can get parking on the main street. But a better way is drive to bottom of town to War memorial at bottom of hill and turn right on the corner to park. You can walk up the beautiful church avenue to the top and turn right to access fort and park. Or there are side steps access to the same avenue of the paying car park. In the fort there is a courtyard, and toilets. The lake is just beside. Great spot for walks and dogs.
