Missouri Star Quilt Company

COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to keep our shops in Hamilton closed until Spring 2021. Please stay tuned to our social media and email for updates about a special Grand Re-Opening celebration next year. Missouri Star Quilt Co. is located in Hamilton, MO, USA, and features 12 themed fabric shops, a sewing retreat center, an education center, and so much more! Inspiration, fabric, and of course, quilts are around every corner in Quilt Town, USA!

I'm one of those people who sewed way back when, but after dragging out my machine to sew masks for everyone, I thought I'd make a quilt top for diversion. Well, I stumbled on MSQC and I've now placed SIX orders (so far) during the pandemic. PROS: (1) Really friendly, helpful people 99% of the time on the online chat feature. (2) Everything I've ordered (yardage, precut fabric, and machine quilting for 2 projects) has been high quality. (3) The shipping costs are really reasonable and the time it takes to get my stuff is always within the timeframe specified on the website (including the expected delays due to all the other sheltered-in-place shoppers). (4) Reasonable prices for top-quality quilting fabrics that are hard to find at the big-box stores in my area (the small shops are mostly closed and don't offer online shopping)--plus those stores' team members aren't as friendly or knowledgable as those at MSQC. (5) Loads of free video tutorials, patterns, advice, etc. (6) GREAT SELECTION of pretty fabrics for any project; I particularly like the precut selections of fabrics that coordinate with each other--this would otherwise be impossible to get right online (and would take me forever to decide, anyway!). (7) I've had no problem with shipping (I get emails, obsessively track the packages, and they come as expected). CONS: These are all minor. (1) I wish the fabrics were put in a (dreaded) plastic bag for shipping--they're just placed in a cardboard shipping box, which seems risky to me if the box is delivered on a rainy day. (2) I wish there were a way to know what number in line my machine-quilting project was. (3) ONE person on the chat line was unable to help me in any way other than to suggest I call the store during business hours... huh? This experience was offset by at least 6 other chats that were terrific. Quick tip: If you fall in love with a cute fabric/charm pack/jelly roll, etc., BUY IT. At least during the pandemic, stuff sells out quickly. So far, I've been OK (I buy everything I think I'll need for a project in one purchase), but I'd advise against buying less than you need to complete a project, thinking you'll pick up the rest later, as it could well be sold out, and MSQC might never get it back in stock. And that would just be "too 2020" to bear.
