March 6, 2022 Janette Largent

Farmington is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is one of the northern suburbs of Detroit. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 10,372. It is surrounded by Farmington Hills, except for a small portion bordered by Livonia to the south. Since 2009, the city's downtown has been the center of an extensive renovation and remodeling featuring a refacing or rebuilding of many buildings on Grand River Avenue, as well as brick paver sidewalks, the Farmington Pavilion, new lighting, and landscaping. The area is known for its historic downtown, elegant Victorian-style homes, and one of Michigan's top rated public school systems, Farmington Public Schools. In 2007 CNNMoney.com listed Farmington as number 55 in its Best Places to Live survey. Farmington was also ranked 27th on the list for Best to Live in 2013, citing nearly US$3 million in additional city renovations and development, bumping its rank up.

Basement Burger Bar

Me and my husband our doing a Once a Month Burger Date to find the best burger in Michigan. We alternate months in picking a place to try and he picked the Basement Burger Bar for January. We had never been there before and it is definitely located in a basement. It was very clean and the staff was super friendly. Our server was very helpful when we told him it was our first time and he explained the menu to us and how to order from it. They had theme burgers on the menu plus a separate check off menu you could use to build your own burger. It was a lot of fun ordering that way as it was a sort of a white board style menu where you could pick and choose what you wanted by checking the box with your marker. I picked a burger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion straws, mayo and bbq sauce. The burgers are a great size and very thick. Me and my husband both enjoyed our hamburgers and gave them a solid 8 out of 10.

This historic theater is great for all ages. Two screens, snack bar, free popcorn on certain days, unassuming theater w polite staff that are actually greatful for your business. They support local charities with food drives, too. Thank you for supporting this business!

Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum

Reviewed By ApolloFeed - Toledo, United States

Let me tell you, I have visited Marvin's six times now and I have never sickened of the experience. Each time brings happiness and a great sense of nostalgia. I can't think of many places where you can get such entertainment for FREE. Okay, if you are unfamiliar with MMMM, let me tell you a secret: Bring your kids and stray them away from the video games, the ticket machines, and the prize counter. That stuff exists in any ol' arcade. The genius of MMMM is the historic stuff that you don't see in any museum, at least not here in the MidWest. Filled with vintage arcade games from England and around the world, MMMM has games that are merely movement-entertainment - stuff that would have been relished when they were created (anytime from the 1870's - the 1930's) back when kids didn't have television, smartphones, and youtube. Any movement machines were scintillating to watch and operate. Having your child watch this stuff now might seem boring by modern day standards, but explain the history to them! Read the explanations on the museum-like displays. Some of the stuff is downright gruesome, but thrilling nonetheless. Some wooden figure machines replicate dance or jest, but some machines even demonstrate hangings or torture (clearly marked with caution signs)... It's a testament to the history of how blunt people were with their kids when it came to death. Not like today's candy-coated Disney history, Marvin had collected a great selection of amusement from a bygone era. Peruse the vintage circus posters, take in the massive Cardiff Giant in the back, have your shoulder massaged by an electronic "Vibratory Doctor" and watch your hand sliced off in a visual treat that fools even some older kids! And if you're cheap like me, you can walk around and see most of this stuff for FREE if you merely wait to witness someone else plop a quarter in the machine. But I brought my 10 and 13 year old here last week, gave them a mere $5 each and we enjoyed ourselves for 1.5 hours, believe it or not. Top Honors for MMMM.

My family and our friends went to multiple escape rooms here. They are filled with mind tricks and puzzles. The rooms are super decorative and have amazing workers. We've done Mad Scientist, Lost In Space, Haunted Room 13, Temple Run (Twice), Bank Heist, and probably so many more that I can't think about right now. We've escaped every time!! (Except the Bank Heist) It's so great for Family's and friends. You can choose the escape room level, scary, not scary, and some even have jump scares to make you uneasy!! It's a great place to stop!!!
