A great shortcut for the locals to either getting to work at the paper mill across the river and for those who travel to Astoria. Summer time is very scenic as Mount St. Helens is in view.

River Mile 38 Brewing Co.

We are a small craft brewery located in the Elochoman Marina. We brew on sight and sell our beer in the taproom. You are welcome to bring in your own food and your family. We also sell our house made root beer and we have a guest tap of cherry cider, and bottled water, coconut water, and lemonade. We consistently have 10-12 taps of our fresh brewed beer flowing. Watch our social media for upcoming events and special hours.

Very thorough training and very easy to follow ad catch on to the concepts he was teaching. Learned kite flying, body dragging, safety, self rescue, wind window concepts as well as the fundamentals of the wind including speed, direction and power. Puget Island

Reviewed By Kalamariverrat - Rainier, Oregon

The only way to get from Oregon to Washington between Rainier and Astoria, a distance of about 50 miles, is the small Westport-to-Puget Island ferry, MV Wahkiakum. This is a great adventure, especially for children, because the ferry is a small, open, barge-like boat that sits low in the water, and gives you a great view of the river, the banks, the islands, the old mill and dock ruins, the wildlife, and the shipping. It is not for the faint-hearted in stormy or windy weather, and sometimes the huge ocean-going ships come fairly close. The ferry allows only cars, and trucks less than 20 feet in length. Large campers, RVs, etc., are not recommended. Hours of operation are 5 am to 10:15 pm, one round-trip hourly, seven days a week.

Julia Butler Hansen Refuge

Reviewed By 2Historybuffs - Portland, Oregon

You can stop along the road and read an informational plaque or two. You can use your binoculars to search the fields for deer. But you probably won't see much wildlife at this refuge. We parked on the river side of the refuge and walked in along the graveled access road. Our crunching feet probably scared off most wild critters. A great blue heron stayed on the path until we were close enough for a photo, but other than an egret, a hawk, one elusive nutria and a number of species of small birds, we didn't see other wildlife. A large part of the refuge is rented as fields for cattle. That is apparently part of an effort to improve habitat for the Columbia White-Tail Deer. However, many of the deer have been moved - to Ridgefield, and to one of the islands in the Columbia River. There is a headquarters building that we did not visit which might have more information and perhaps a restful bench. I would rate this 2 1/2 if that were an option.
