Once its own independent town, this neighborhood still serves as a refuge from the bustle of city life and is often fondly referred to as the "Greenwich Village of Geneva."
A wonderful place to spend a day! The city was designed with beautiful buildings on the street front and hidden courtyards which offer some very interesting secret places. Visit the Mairie and checkout the website for Carouge for possible tours offered in a number of languages. The boutiques are unusual and a bit different from "high" street shops. There is a wide selection of good restaurants and tearooms that will please most. Open air markets are on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and offer more than the usual fresh veg, flowers, etc.

My son lived in Carouge before moving into the centre of Geneva. On a night out for dinner he took me to this Whisky bar. I had never seen such an array of different whiskies before. The bar is small and relatively non descript, but there were quite a few people who came in for a night cap like we did. I asked for a Teeling Irish Whisky. It is relatively unknown. I was surprised the barman laid his hands on it straight away. We chatted to other people at the bar while we lingered over a whisky. Not cheap 15 francs per glass, but a lovely way to end a nice night out.

Le Chat Noir good vibes since 1985 A legendary place near Geneva, this club is the only spot that combines real bar skills and a live music venue. This lovely and comfortable place can welcome you and your friends for food, drinks, music and fun until the early morning. Cocktails and music Live music and quest for national and international breaking acts is the main purpose of our venue. Our friendly bar team will serve and amaze you with its creativity and technics. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll may even appreciate some “Flair bartending ”. In 2012, the place went for a big makeover. If the atmosphere and soul of our Black Cat (Chat Noir - in french) stayed the same, we now triple our club capacity. No dress code, all style music and late opening… a must see where you can come for dinner, enjoy live music and stay even longer for DJ’s sessions. See you at Le Chat Noir. OPEN 7 / 7
Expensive food for what it is. The "tapas" plate was like over 40 francs? For fried shrimps, fried veggies, fried chicken... and some kind of ham and cheese on toast that was... fried.
On the good side, real cocktails, made by hand by barmans that actually know what they are doing.
Average price for cocktails; 15 francs... not bad, but not good.
Overall, good place to chill with friends, I'd skip the food next time.
