7 Things to Do in Bonifay That You Shouldn't Miss

July 31, 2017 Toi Mattera

Bonifay is a city in Holmes County, Florida, United States. Bonifay was given its name from a prominent family that had a brickmaking factory in Pensacola. Frank Bonifay, the man behind the town's name, bought a stake in the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, now CSX. As W. D. Chipley connected the rural Florida Panhandle, along the way he came up with names for certain communities the railroad bisected.

Falling Waters State Park

Reviewed By jmpncsu - Raleigh, North Carolina

Falling Waters State Park is a small state park home to Florida's highest waterfall at 72 feet - Falling Waters Sink. A small creek tumbles down into a deep sinkhole and disappears into an underground cave. The creek is very small and it can dry up completely so best to visit after a good rain. Besides the waterfall, there are a couple short hiking trails, a campground and a 2-acre lake for swimming. I spotted some beautiful mountain azalea blooming along the trails. Another trail leads to sinkholes, but it was closed when I visited.

This shop is on an alternate route to the Panhandle beaches, somewhat hidden in an otherwise dreary backwater town. I guess most people go there for the stunning variety of giftable Sorrelli jewelry, but I value it for local artistry and the excellent taste of the owner in stocking unique treasures.

We decided to go a spring to cool off today. This was our 1st time going to Cypress Springs on Homes Creek. We chose Snaggy Bend Outfitters because of all of the different choices for pick up locations. I have to tell you the people were super nice and explained everything perfectly. The spring was probably the most beautiful spring I have seen and living in Panama City I have seen most of the springs in this area. The spring was about 20 minutes from the landing that we launched from. After making it to the spring we decided to spend the entire day there. So we opted for the closet pick up when we were done, which was about 25 minutes down stream from the spring. After we got to the landing we called them and I kid you not they were there to pick us up in less than 5 minutes. We had some much fun that we are planning to go again next week.

Keith Cabin

Reviewed By erica32paulk - Hartford, Alabama

The Keith Cabin Foundation frequently sponsors events on the grounds e.g. educational feildtrips organized with local schools, cultural and historical festivals, weddings and family gatherings.  On these occasions there is always live entertainment and food for all, games and crafts for the younger generation as well as local vendors and raffles.

Its a great place to take the family where all locals and out of towners join in for some good ole family fun. This is a non-profit organization so all the proceeds go directly to keeping a great part of history to share with all.

Old Oaks Vineyard

If you're looking for Florida wine, Old Oaks Vineyard is a great place to find it. Bridget has been offering wine tastings and her award-winning wines since 2006. It's a bit hard to find, 2 miles down a dirt road (Will Lee Road), but worth the trip. She has peach, watermelon, and pumpkin wine, along with white and red table wines. Wine tasting in the Florida countryside makes a good daytrip.
