You don't want to miss this. Only open to the public on Saturday mornings, but worth arranging a schedule to do this. We take all our out-of-town visitors here, especially if they have children (but any age enjoys this). It says admission is two carrots, but bring as many bags of carrots as you can carry, apples too, as you'll run out faster than you think. A nice stroll in a lovely site, the work they do with the older horses is fantastic. You can picnic also. What you do is walk around, the horses and donkeys come to the fence for attention, gentle words of praise and pats and they KNOW you may have a carrot or apple for them! The owner (Mary Gregory) says they KNOW when it's Saturday as they wake up excited to see the visitors. Even the blind horses know where to find the carrots or apples on your hand. If you've never fed a horse, ask how best to do it from the staff. Such a peaceful, relaxing place! P.s. They don't ask for admission, so bring a few extra dollars to donate or buy a t-shirt. It helps pay for the expenses of feeding and caring for the many retired and rescued horses.

A 1 day ride. Lots of tree canopy in the Preserve and very well marked trails. Accessed core trails from main Trail Head off of 63rd Blvd. Many great trails, lots of blues and interesting blacks. Nice warm up green is Meadow View so enjoy it. Best blue trail is Sweet Gum. Didn’t make it to Dogwood or Pine For You due to rain but a local recommended it. A misleading black trail is Tung Nut and it’s a graded grass cut trail that is not fun. Several picnic areas in case of rain at park entrance as well as restrooms. Not much traffic but we were there mid week. No critter sightings but several hikers on shared trails. Recommend Deep Woods OFF. Highly recommend and will return and ride Dogwood and Pine For You.
