Elkhart is a lively small city in the heart of rustic Amish country, complimenting the rural charm of northern Indiana with world class shopping and dining, lush green spaces, exciting festivals and events throughout the year. Witness the Amish hard at work in the small villages surrounding the city, or discover vibrant arts and nightlife in the revitalized downtown area. Head to verdant Island Park, where the St. Joseph and Elkhart rivers merge, for an oasis of calm within the city downtown.

This is a very complete museum, We were there an hour and a half and never made it to the second floor which houses a lot of research material. Very interesting about the development of RV's and mobile homes, but even more interesting about how it affected local history in the Elkhart area.If you RV, you really need to stop.

Activities for all ages: Visit the museum to learn about railroading history, see the Stanley Bell Model Train Layout and his various scale collection, observe trains going by on one of the busiest lines in the Midwest, tour the rolling stock, build your own wooden track layout on the 4’x 6’ train table, take a spin around the track on the Ride on Thomas the Train and more.
Memorabilia, Great Model train layout. Built in an old train station. Highlight is being able to step inside a F7 Diesel Engine. Pretty Cool..

Linton's Enchanted Gardens is Indiana's largest facility, boasting over 50,000 square feet of indoor shopping filled with creative displays which will spark your imagination, as well as over 9 acres of outdoor displays. The Garden Cafe at Linton's features fresh and healthy meals for breakfast and lunch, as well as decadent desserts and handcrafted hot and cold drinks.
This was my second visit---I live about two hours away--- and I returned with three friends who were in awe of this place. The amazement began at the entrance where we took photos in front of the Quilt Garden, a part of the Elkhart Heritage Trail. There is a small bridge providing a better view to see the flowers pieced together like a quilt pattern. The store inside has gift merchandise cleverly arranged by themes, and my favorite is the discount jewelry wall where most items are under $10. The café offers a fair cup of coffee though we didn't take time to munch today as we wanted to tour outside many of the larger plants, including topiaries.

Wellfield Botanic Gardens is open year-round. Activities include special events and festivals, workshops and educational opportunities, a summer concert series, winter wonderland holiday lights, and seasonal programming and exhibits. Facilities may be rented for private events including weddings, anniversaries, and celebrations of life. The Mission of Wellfield Botanic Gardens is to celebrate the inseparable relationship between water and life, inspire creativity and lifelong learning, foster stewardship of our natural world, and grow community. 36 acres in size, half of which are water, Wellfield resides on a historical piece of property originally known as the “North Main Street Well Field.” The property has been a source of hydraulic energy and drinking water for the City of Elkhart since the mid-1800s. Wellfield holds a lease agreement with the City of Elkhart and is a private, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
Wellfield Gardens is so enchanting and a great place to walk and enjoy the beauty of the gardens. When the flowers are in bloom in the late Spring and Summer it makes the gardens more beautiful. During the holiday season, they host the Holiday of Lights which is spectacular!! It draws a huge crowd for the month that it runs for and the entry fee goes towards gardens. We are lucky to have such a beautiful place to enjoy all year round
