The Galloway Forest Park Red Deer Range

Visited the red deer range after recently taking up photography. I googled where to photograph wildlife in my area and this popped up. I had a fantastic time. At first there didn't seem to be any deer around so I went for a short walk along the path and was thinking oh well I don't think this is my day. Back in the hide I thought one last look then I will go and nearly jumped out of my skin when I opened the window and the big stag grunted with his nose right at the window. They blend in so well with their surroundings but clearly love to come down to the feeding area in the hope of picking up a few carrots. Three of them hung around for a long time allowing plenty of photo opportunities. Would be a great place also to take kids. Don't forget your carrots !

What a lovely place for all the family and even those that didn’t take any!! Well thought out layout, with excellent quality furniture and fixtures. Everything is at hand and the families we saw were all enjoying themselves. We just went for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed, soup of the day, Brie and Bacon panini. Good value it has to be said!! Great place to go!

Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre

We are a Cafe and visitors centre in the heart of the Galloway forest park serving good wholesome food with proper coffee and fantastic hot chocolate. This is also one of the best places to enjoy the night sky – the visitor centre overlooks the darkest part of the Forest Park, which ensures a particularly dramatic stellar show.

A newly renovated visitor centre on the shore of the loch, a starting point for many sign pointed walks. The centre is a comfortable place to rest the legs, on the sofas by the wood fire, on the cafe seating or outside. A simple but very tasty menu (biggest slices of cake ever). We had the tomato and pepper soup - delicious. A different selection of quality locally sourced gifts was just right for stocking up on Christmas gifts. Dogs are not only allowed but spoilt.
