I arrived for a day trip to the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the seat for the diocese Chanthaburi. It was the Marián triduum conclusión and was able to join the Mass and procession heading by the local bishop. It’s rather impressive structure and the stained glass windows are stunning. To the left is a sand painting of Divine Mercy and to the right is an made of similar material of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The most impressive part for me was to venerate the bejeweled state of Mary. Though in the middle of a global pandemic of Covid people still were touching the statue. I highly recommended people to visit to this architectural beauty and after can cross the bridge and stroll the walking culture street to browse the cafes and shops along the river banks.

Take a walk through unique mangrove forest on a wooden footbridge, easy to walk and well maintained. Entrance is free. It is surprisingly clean so tourists seem to respect this ecosystem. Signboards help you to orientate and give informations about the fauna. It is a round trip and on your way you pass a observation tower which is located at seaside. You have a wonderful view on the bay and its surrounding mangrove forest. Near this tower you also find kajaks stationed which offer trips to the seaside. We did not do that this day as a very cold wind was blowing. Not many parking lots, better come during the week, weekends and hollidays it may be crowded. Good to combine with a visit to nearby located "sea farming demonstration unit".

The Chanthaburi Oldtown across the river from the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi is another must visit for your trip here. A small maybe 500m x 1000m area of old houses and community, dotted with homestays and hotels, cafes, bakeries and coffeeshops as well as actual live in homes of the local community. Loved the old architecture, easy going streets and amazing food found in this waterfront area. Only wished there are more bridges around the area so you can hop forth and back to take better photos.
