The Laneway Theatre is Australia's only purpose built Close Up Magic venue. Seating 32 in pure luxury it stages intimate performances of world class magic.
We saw Tim's Astonishment show. Everything about it was absolutely amazing! The theatre is awesome, seats comfortable, it's so small and cozy you can see everything. Tim has a wonderful story-telling style, laced with jokes, comedy, and everyone including the kids gets invited up on stage to participate in a magic trick or two which was really fantastic! We took our kids aged 7 & 10 and they (and we) were enthralled from start to finish. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Living round the corner in Alphington, we have been going to palace Westgarth every six weeks or so for about 10 years. We have seen current release ‘block busters’, film festivals (the Scandinavian festival is very welcome), quirky films and re releases of older films. The online booking system works, the staff are knowledgeable and attentive, the seats are comfortable, the projectors are good and the sound is just fine. In other words a very good cinema. Even though we have recently moved 40km away, palace Westgarth is still our cinema of choice. Some standout movies over the years have been - Nebraska, seeing a black and white film at a deco cinema just works - Rams, an excellent Icelandic drama in a small Melbourne cinema was a good combination

High Street’s home of live music and iconic watering hole, the Northcote Social Club has earned itself a place in the hearts of locals and roaming travellers alike since its establishment over a century ago in 1894. The bandroom regularly hosts the best in international touring acts and has become renowned for welcoming the latest and greatest in local talent to the stage. With the kitchen serving up a host of modern classics and the front bar the perfect place for a pint or wine, the Northcote Social Club has all the feel of an A-grade dining destination with the added charms of your best friends’ dining room.
I live in Northcote so one has to have been to the Northcote Social Club! It has been around longer than I know and competes with The Corner in Richmond as one of Melbourne's premier venues for significant established and emerging musicians and bands. It is essentially a pub with a performing space attached. People of all ages can go there and get a pretty good view of their chosen artists and come away with a an uplifted feeling of enjoyment.

We had noticed this place (inside an old church!) the night before, so decided to go there for lunch. We were the only ones there so it was quiet. The decor was amazing, I wished there was something like that back in Perth. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Loved it!
