Bear Town is the ultimate children’s role play experience where imaginations come to life and anything is possible! With 12 unique role play areas, each more exciting than the last, Bear Town will inspire your child to broaden their personal, social and emotional development, expand their communication and language skills all the while gaining confidence and most importantly having fun.
We have now visited a few times with a 2 year old and 7 year old. This is nothing like soft play. It is an indoor town full of fun areas to explore and enjoy. It is an amazing concept that the children love and a brilliant cafe too with great coffee.

St Andrews is a gem. Many interesting features and a wonderful Burne Jones window. We arrived just as the morning service was ending on the final day before the second covid19 lockdown. What a very friendly welcome from everybody including the vicar .

Welcome to Coldharbour Mill, a 200 year old spinning mill set in the tranquil Devon village of Uffculme. Built by Thomas Fox to spin woollen and later worsted yarns in 1799, Coldharbour Mill is a rare surviving example of Georgian architecture, industry and enterprise. Since reopening as a museum in 1982 the mill has continued to produce high quality worsted knitting yarn on its period machinery. Take a fascinating factory tour to understand how the hand processes of spinning and weaving are performed on machines and the role of Thomas Fox in bringing these new inventions into the South West. Learn about Victorian mill conditions and how Quaker attitudes influenced the treatment and welfare of mill employees, many of whom were children. Take a look at the mill's impressive array of power sources including a recently restored 1821 High Breast Shot Water Wheel, the largest in the South West, an 1867 Kittoe & Brotherhood Beam Engine, a rare 1910 Pollit & Wigzell 300hp Steam Engine and a Lancashire Boiler, which we 'Steam Up' on special event days (see the museum's event page). On the first floor of the Mill, there is an exhibition celebrating the manufacture of puttees - one of the Fox firm's iconic products and the Fox Gallery houses a permanent 'Home Front' exhibition with displays and memorabilia relating to the war (WWII) years. The mill shop sells many unique products, including a range of knitting wools and fabrics manufactured exclusively by the mill. With this and so much more, a visit to Coldharbour Mill is an exciting and very different day out.
There is so much more here than I had anticipated. A steam day is particularly interesting. They have a range of engines from the massive beam engine, the compound engine that drove the mill and smaller engines that worked generators or the carpenters shop. The staem was provided by a coal fired Lancashire boiler. We had an interesting guided tour of the spinning and a weaving demonstration. We spent 3 hours there and I will certainly go back again.

Out of the way but we found plenty to do in the area. Cheapest pub accom in Devon on the day we booked, but must be far from the worst! The bathroom in room 2 looks minuscule and cramped but the toilet flushes well, the fan does a great job and the shower was superb! Everything was really functional and kind of as you'd expect of an old country pub at this kind of price point, with the usual small, oddly shaped rooms, mish/mash of changes and additions over the years, none of them finished very well. The difference in this case was that it all worked and worked very well. The bed/bedding was really good, the biscuits with the tea stuff were unusual and really good, the towels were fantastic and the secondary glazing worked really well. The shower (apart from being in a small cubicle) was amazingly good. There's a fairly basic pub downstairs that does a good pint of red cider. It has Sky Sports so you get a decent TV package in the room as well. Their C19 restrictions are well thought out and not over the top for the majority, but several older and obviously more vulnerable clients were having no problem keeping more separated. Currently the kitchen is being remodeled so there is no food but they let you bring in a take-away! We ate in the Hickory Smoke house a short drive away and brought back onion rings to eat as nibbles with our cider in the bar! Or there's fish and chips pretty much next door! If you're looking for luxury you won't like the ratty paint edges, paint drips, electric points not square and all that sort of thing that visually isn't great, but ultimately does not actually affect how comfortable you are! A few spare hours with a critical eye, some matching paint, a scraper, some sealant, basic DIY skills could make a lot of difference to the visual aspect. It's easy to make a home made key fob look professional at no real cost, but they've not bothered.

Thank you very much Merry Harriers. We arrived to get a snack before visiting the superb Bear Town with our kids over the road. The Merry Harriers welcomed us in with our rowdy children. We had mussels and a baked potato with ham and cheese (!) which were excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the decor, old and new, with some classic pub features and cheerful Christmas decorations. We sat by a spitting fire. Pandemic measures made us feel safe. Thank you again. Lovely.
