Corrective Services NSW Museum

We loved the museum. Gold coin donation....worth a bit more so chuck in some extra dollars. A correctional officer from the actual prison next door was on duty today and gave us a great insight into the lives of the prisoners both in the medium security complex the museum is connected to, as well as the minimum security prison ‘The Farm’ up the road. It was fascinating to to see some glimpses of past and present prison conditions in NSW. The actual ‘Trojan Horse’ used in a 1994 escape was pretty cool, as was bullet proof glass from Super Max and although grim....the collection of confiscated contraband was such an eye opener. Souvenir shop contains mountains of craft and hand made products from the inmates. At the end....the gallows....actual gallows. Crazy!

I can't speak highly enough of the offering of stock and the helpfulness of the staff, trying to be as flexible as possible. I think they try to keep offering pieces that are affordable for most, not items at the very expensive end nor at the very cheap/won't last end. I really am not able to get out to shop often and for me this service is perfect with the longest return program offered. It's my saviour and thy listen to my suggestions to any changes such as a minor change on a web page. This is an online website with a couple of fairly remote locations, so some of the questions are not really relevant.

Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and Cafe

The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and cafe showcases the amazing history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme; from the early days of construction through to how it is operated by Snowy Hydro today. This is a must for any visitor to the Snowy Mountains region! The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and a one of a kind immersive theatre. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Take your turn on the “power bikes” and see if you can peddle hard enough to power a TV, make some toast or boil a kettle. You will also find screens displaying the Scheme working in real time. See which generators are operating, how much electricity they are producing and the prices of electricity in the market. Stay for a while, have a barista made coffee and light refreshments at the Discovery Centre Cafe.

Excellent Discovery Centre - showing 2 films, both very worthwhile and informative, combined with an excellent display. Learn about the exciting new Snowy 2.0 project. I spent a very enjoyable morning learning and revisiting memories. Staff knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and together with a Cafe making a great coffee - what more could you ask for.

Royal Hotel Cooma

Reviewed By AndrewW4242 - Heyfield, Australia

Great value for money, I went to stay for one night and ended up staying on for two. Friendly service and I met a great bunch of locals. The history of the pub is amazing and the new owners are really getting it up and running again as it should be with great basic value for money pub grub meals, chips cooked to perfection, chicken schnitzel was perfect (both very important in a pub) beef burger was the tastiest I've had in ages, don't expect cappuccino coffee and bacon and eggs for breakfast but you can walk up the hill in the morning and get that from a local cafe. If you've never stayed in an Aussie pub I highly recommend you try it and this one was great! A friendly bunch of locals and one of the things I love about Australia is our people and our pubs. I almost didn't want to leave.... Oh and you can go for a walk after your meal up to the Nanny Goat hill lookout if you want to see a great view of the area within a short walk from the pub and back. With meals, happy hour beers and cheap accomodation the whole weekend was very great value and I think I only spent just under $200. I'll be back there again next time I'm in the area. Highly recommended!
