Palazzo Pubblico

Reviewed By airbus32 - Tucson, United States

This is more of a review of San Marino itself rather than just the Palazzo Pubblico. We spent just one night in San Marino but what a find! Perched upon a hilltop, this country/city is a wonderful place filled with a rich history. There are many restaurants, shops, and things to do and see. It is well worth your time to visit the castle (all 3 parts) along with it's museums. The people are friendly and the food is very good. We found a great wine shop which had some amazing Italian wines for amazing prices. If you ever have a night or two in between Florence and say Venice, this is well worth a stop.

San Marino is a beautiful place to visit with great views and a lot of history. I would recommend a visit with children, as it is quite picturesque and fairy tale like. It is pretty hilly, so keep this in mind. I found visiting the attractions super cheap as well.

Centro Storico Di San Marino

Reviewed By T-SGlobetrotters - Preston, United Kingdom

We stayed overnight in San Marino and reached the old town by bus from Rimini late afternoon. The bus stop is opposite Rimini rail station near Burger King. Tickets €5 each way can be purchased at the tobacconist’s adjacent to BK. Recommend buying your return ticket at the same time although it is possible to buy tickets from the driver in cash. There are regular buses through the day (timetable attached). Luggage is stored under the bus and the journey takes around an hour. We stayed at Hotel Rosa which we can highly recommend. The benefit if staying overnight is the ability to enjoy the old town after all the day trippers and tour groups have departedand everything is much quieter. Views across the valley are splendid, as indeed are sites in the town itself where wandering around particularly in the evening and early morning is a real pleasure. The three towers are easily reached on foot and most of the old town is pedestrianised and while some of the inclines are quite steep, it is all very manageable and all the roads and building are immaculate state of repair. There are numerous restaurants to choose from. Although we are not big shoppers, there are many shops to browse for those inclined. San Marino exceeded our expectations and we did not regret taking to time to travel there even if it is just for one night.

Basilica del Santo Marino

Reviewed By asiyahnoemik - Pula, Croatia

Arriving at the small square before reaching the first tower, we were immediately captivated by the beautiful Basilica of St. Marino. The Basilica of San Marino is the main church of the City of San Marino, belonging to the diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro, is dedicated to the patron saint of the city and the state. It is located in Piazzale Domus Plebis. In the place where today the basilica rises, already in the 4th century there was a church dedicated to San Marino deacon. The interior of the Basilica is simply decorated, but in its simplicity is beautiful. The main altar is decorated with the statue of San Marino deacon by Tadolini, a pupil of Canova. Under the altar are part of the relics of the saint that were found on 3 March 1586. Beautiful Basilika is definitely worth a visit.
