Hoonah (Xunaa in Tlingit) is a largely Tlingit community on Chichagof Island, located in Alaska's panhandle in the southeast region of the state. It is 30 miles (48 km) west of Juneau, across the Alaskan Inside Passage. Hoonah is the only first-class city on Chichagof Island, the 109th largest island in the world and the 5th largest island in the United States. At the 2010 census the population was 760, down from 860 at the 2000 census. In the summer the population can swell to over 1,300 depending on fishing, boating, hiking and hunting conditions. "Hoonah" became the official spelling in 1901, with establishment of the Hoonah branch of the United States Post Office. Xunaa means "protected from the North Wind" in the Tlingit language.

Alaskan sized adventure! This is it, the world's largest zip-line: 5,330 feet long, 1,300 foot vertical drop, 60 mph maximum speed, 300 feet highest point from ground, 1.5 minute ride time! If you are looking for true adventure then the ZipRider is for you. Unlike anything you've seen before the ZipRider cable ride at Icy Strait Point is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Your adventure begins when you board your bus for the ride to the top the mountain. Your driver will narrate as you pass through the village of Hoonah and then up the mountainside. Six guests launch at once, and it is a race to the bottom! 3, 2, 1 and you're off, accelerating to 60 mph as you pass 300 feet above the treetops. If your eyes are still open you will see sweeping views of Port Frederick, Icy Strait and your cruise ship far below. Your ZipRide concludes with a break-activated landing on the beach back at Icy Strait Point.Participants must be between 90 and 275 pounds and be comfortable with heights. Guaranteed Whales! - If whales are not seen on this excursion we will hand you $100 in CASH as you get off the boat. Since 2004 we have never missed seeing whales. Top Reasons to take this trip.1) Large catamaran style boat that is incredibly stable in rough seas. Small boats can get tossed around while this one is stable and fast when it gets rough. This is a great boat for guests in wheel chairs or with mobility challenges due to stability and room to move around. 2) Discounted child prices make this very affordable for families. 3) Departs and returns to Icy Strait Point at the cruise ship terminal, no vehicle transfers are required making the most of your time. 4) High viewing decks allow the best possible views of whales as more of the whale is visible from up high. 5) You are guaranteed to make it back to the ship, if an issue arrises on the tour, the ship will wait for you. 6) Icy Strait Point is a locally owned business that benefits the Native shareholders of Huna Totem Corporation.
