Sabugal (Portuguese pronunciation: [sɐβuˈɣaɫ]) is a city and a municipality in the District of Guarda in Portugal. The municipality population in 2011 was 12,544, in an area of 822.70 km². The city proper has a population of about 3,000. There are castles in Sabugal and Sortelha. The present Mayor is Manuel Rito Alves, elected by the Social Democratic Party.

Called the Castle of the Five Quines due to the unusual shape of its pentagonal tower. Although historians are not entirely sure about this, the Christian foundation of the village of Sabugal may have taken place in the twelfth century.Mr Dinis carried out his repopulation and granted him the charter.
