Paignton (/ˈpeɪntən/ PAYN-tən) is a seaside town on the coast of Tor Bay in Devon, England. Together with Torquay and Brixham it forms the borough of Torbay which was created in 1998. The Torbay area is a holiday destination known as the English Riviera. Paignton's population in the United Kingdom Census of 2011 was 49,021. It has origins as a Celtic settlement and was first mentioned in 1086. It grew as a small fishing village and a new harbour was built in 1847. A railway line was opened to passengers in 1859 creating links to Torquay and London. As its population increased, it merged with the villages of Goodrington and Preston.

A wheelchair-friendly 1 mile walk on the South West Path around Paignton's Roundham Head, the hub of the town's sixteenth-century fishing industry. The headland's rocky red layered cliffs are topped with pines and sycamores. There are extensive views, northwards across Tor Bay and over Goodrington Sands to Brixham in the south. On a good day you can even see across Lyme Bay to Portland.
Wonderful views from Roundham Gardens on the cliff top - plenty of seats and nooks and crannies to take in the suns rays facing south

I live local and love a walk around Oldway mansions grounds. The walk is always beautiful and serene. Its peaceful and the grounds are always cared for beautifully. Its a great place to sit and watch the world go by, to walk the dogs, have a picnic or just to go for a walk. The grounds always have alot of tourists who are also enjoying the beauty. Due to the current COVID and repairs the mansion isn't open to the public but it was a lovely day to spend outdoors. It has free parking in the carpark although there had been apparent talk from the council of putting up parking meters which i think would be a huge shame and i hope it doesn't happen. Beautiful place!

Open 3 days per week April to October. If you enjoy a sense of history, this family home set in gorgeous gardens amid rolling countryside is worth including while touring the area. Although the "castle" is largely 20th century reconstruction, and currently only a few rooms, chapel and detached kitchen are open, it shows how the gentry of Tudor times lived, and probably you will find re-enactor guides to enhance your visit. Entry fee payable by non NT members.

This working farm on the edge of Paignton is open to the public 7 days a week. There’s no charge to visit and parking is free. Come and wander around the farm, take in the beautiful views and explore our fantastic 2km nature trail through the ancient woodland, bustling with wildlife. You can often see our farm animals grazing including cows and sheep, sometimes lambs and calves too. Our gorgeous Occombe Farm Café is open every day too, serving a delicious range of simple, tasty food, homemade using locally sourced produce wherever possible. We offer a full programme of chargeable activities and events throughout the year including kids’ cookery classes, family discovery trails and meet our animals’ sessions. All funds raised help support the care of many special green spaces and places in Torbay, cared for by local conservation charity, Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust.
