Named one of the top ten small art towns in the country, Brattleboro's downtown is packed with coffee shops, bookstores, and art galleries. Over the course of a year, the town hosts world class jazz concerts, film festivals, and theater companies. Since 1922, Brattleboro has also been home to the Harris Hill Ski Jump, an annual winter tradition that brings thousands of spectators to the town to watch as some of the world's best athletes tackle the death-defying 90-meter ski jump.

A 350-acre farm - the barn and country store are open to the public.
I stopped by the Robb Family Farm Country Store to purchase maple candies and syrup. Their candies were fresh and made right there. There were also many local foods and other gifts. The family is friendly. It is definitely worth a visit!

Retreat Farm is on a mission to connect people to the land and to one another. Just outside of downtown Brattleboro, Retreat Farm's 9 historic barns, grassy square, and 10-miles of trails and open waters are here for you to enjoy. In addition to animals grazing on pasture and growing food, you can experience a new labyrinth garden, arts installations, walking paths and trails, and interpretive signs about the history and nature of the property. All this and the Farm's Forest Playground, Storybook Walk, and beautiful gardens are here for you every day from dawn to dusk for free.
We love going to Retreat Farm. This year, especially because of the pandemic it has been exceptionally important to us. They have worked really hard on developing miles of new trails and have put up beautifully made wooden posts as trail markers. They have a storybook trail for kids with little wooden and plexiglass structures down low so that kids and adults can walk along and read two pages from a kids book, and then two more and so one. So, each month we have been reading these books to our grand-kids who we can't see and we send them micro-videos of us going on the storybook walk. It's so much fun! And, they have been working with an Abenaki cultural teacher and have posted translated poetry along one stretch of trail. Then there are the animals, especially Carlos the bull, but also great is the labyrinth made of flowers and food, which is part of a resilience project for the area. I can't say enough good things about Retreat Farm!

Beautiful location. Lush foliage and gardens surround the property. The creek that runs under the bridge is clear. The construction of the bridge is impressive. Brattleboro has done a wonderful job of keeping the bridge in great condition.

We had a reservation for a midday sleigh ride for our daughter and her husband and 2 1/2 year old grandson. Everyone totally enjoyed the ride and it far exceeded our expectations. Jay Bailey was a most gracious host and Rachel and Robin, (the Suffolk Punch horses), were outstanding. The scenery was gorgeous and the snow sleigh ride was the highlight of our Christmas season. Quality experience at a reasonable expense. Next year....absolutely!!! If you are anywhere near Brattleboro, this is a must see, must do adventure. Thank you Mr. Bailey.
