Newlyn Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Newlyn, Cornwall. Opened in 1895, and financed by John Passmore Edwards the gallery was conceived as an exhibition venue for the Newlyn School of Art; the works of which are now largely located at Penlee House Gallery & Museum in nearby Penzance. In 2007 the gallery was redeveloped and we opened a second venue, The Exchange in Penzance. With two venues we are able to offer a wide and varied programme , showcasing the best of national and international contemporary art, as well as work by some of the best artists currently working in the region. The Picture Room space shows changing exhibitions of works for sale. With an emphasis on affordable works, it offers the opportunity to buy paintings, prints and drawings by some of the region's most recognised artists. The Studio on the first floor has a vast window offering panoramic views across Mounts Bay. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but may not be allowed into some exhibitions.
The current exhibition at this lovely little gallery is the 'story' of life under covid-19 restrictions, or, more accurately, the creative opportunities presented during lockdown and the various restrictions. There are photos, poems, and loads of paintings, drawings and prints from people of all ages, including local children. The whole exhibition shows just how important it is to be creative and to explore what is all around that you might not always notice. Definitley an exhibition to see if you can - and the shop has some really lovely ceramics!
Unique shop that offers everything from hand-made jewelry to wooden furniture.
Tracy and Alex thought of starting a space which was a gallery but also much more, to reflect their very eclectic taste in all the arts. When the chance of the site of the much missed Badcocks Gallery came up, it was an opportunity as if sent from the heavens! Both Alex and Tracy are practicing artists and see Coddiwomple as much more than just a gallery, its a part of their mutual artistic vision
