Cape Town glistens at the southern toe of the African continent. Tourist brochure-views at Blaauwberg Beach and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are within easy driving distance of "The Mother City." The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve provides sweeping sea vistas, hiking trails and wildlife encounters. On a more somber note, travelers can visit Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years.

We went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show which was performed at the Artscape. This is the first time I saw a live performances of the show. Over the years the Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a "cult classic" and I was so excited to see the live performance. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the highest-grossing film musicals ever made. In 1975 on a meager budget of $1.4 million, it ended up grossing over $140 million. The live performance was wonderful. You could tell that the actors were really dedicated and worked hard in order to put in the show. The cast was very energetic and this was positively absorbed by the audience. In the end the performance deserved and received a standing ovation. Even though Artscape is 48 years old this year it is still a beautiful theatre and contributes to a great and unique night out. Can't wait for Swan Lake in 2020.

Studio 7 is the most intimate venue in the world for listening to music. Wooden floors, fireplace, big white couches, Bushmills Irish Whiskey, and an open planned house allows you to see the most amazing musicians in a stripped down setting this is it.
Presented by Cape Town Opera and the UCT Opera school, our next opera on stage at the ARTSCAPE OPERA HOUSE, WED 15 19:30 | FRI 17 19:30 | SAT 18 MAY 18:00 - I Capuleti e i Montecchi (A retelling of the Rome and Juliet story) by Vincenzo Bellini. The legend of the feuding Capulets and Montagues of Verona came home to Italy in spectacular fashion with the premiere of Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Venice in 1830. Drawing on the earliest versions of the Romeo and Juliet story (the source material for Shakespeare’s classic), Bellini chose to cast his star-crossed lovers as a soprano and mezzo-soprano; their sensuous duets, full of Bellini’s trademark long-breathed melodies, are highlights of this bel canto gem. Featuring a youthful cast drawn from the UCT Opera School and CTO’s Young Artist Programme, this new production will be conducted by Jeremy Silver, the Director of the UCT Opera School. Steven Stead directs, with designs by Michael Mitchell and Kobus Rossouw.
