The Out Islands are synonymous with sport, from the depths of the Gulf Stream that yield big game fish to the coral reefs just off shore that are catnip to scuba divers. Sailing, kayaking and beach-combing add action to lazy days in the sun, while resident pink flamingos and rare Bahama parrots color local hikes.

Let me start off by saying that if you are in the Exumas, this is something that you will most likely do. It is easy to find a tour guide from Great Exuma to get you here, or if you are staying further north on the Exuma chain, you can take your rental boat to Pig Beach quite easily. It is a unique and fun adventure for the entire family (and I mean everyone from toddlers to their great grandparents). I've been visiting the Exumas for years, and during that time, I've learned the key to seeing them in the best way is to get their early before the tours start. Once everyone is awake and moving around, this area becomes somewhat of a tourist trap. And once there are a lot of people there, it really just becomes a mad house of people feeding the pigs. You've likely seen the photos on social media of the young piglets. These are not usually there. There are always the large adult pigs (people are often surprised at how large they actually are) and usually a few younger pigs, but rarely are there actual baby piglets. Not to worry, though! Because the babies aren't swimmers yet, and watching the big boys and girls swim is a sight to see!
