Most Argentinean wine is produced in the mountainous Cuyo region, and visiting oenophiles rave about their experiences here. Whether you take a packaged tour of vineyards or explore on your own (some TripAdvisor travelers recommend renting a bike!), you’re sure to come home with amazing memories… and probably a new favorite Malbec.

If you are planning to visit Talampaya (Parque Nacional Talampaya, route 76), its 50 km from Villa Union. Would recommend popping into town and booking the 10:15 overland truck (called 4x4). It takes around 25 people and costs 2170 peso per person. This includes the park fees – you will get white wine, water, iced tea, olives, something to eat and sparkling white wine. The guide will only speak in English, but the Argentinians are more than happy to translate into English for you. It’s a great 4 hr ride. Take a sun hat, long sleeve shirt and walking trousers and good shoes as the sun is very very hot. Good photo opportunities.

It is said that it can be cloudy during daytime but in the evening... magic hand take clouds of the sky. It is true! and due to that in Leoncito there is more than 300 clear nights in the year. You can see telescopes and if you are lucky as we were you will listen to the best explanation of how the observatory works and what it is all about - thanks to Cachi and Pepe!!!
