Velenje (pronounced [ʋɛˈlɛːnjɛ] ( listen); German: Wöllan) is Slovenia's fifth-largest city, and the seat of the Municipality of Velenje. The city is located in northeastern Slovenia, among the rolling green hills of the Šalek Valley, with the Kamnik–Savinja Alps to the west and the Pohorje Mountains to the east.

The House of Minerals which is operating under the auspice of the Velenje Museum, exhibits over 2,000 samples of minerals collected from all over the world. In addition to the exhibition of minerals, a number of workshops for pre-school and school children as well as other groups are organised in the House of Minerals.
The Velenje Gallery collection contains little under a thousand pieces which makes it one of the most significant art collections in Slovenia and in addition to paintings and sculptures of Slovenian modern and contemporary art it includes works of Academy of Fine Arts students (1992 - 2007), graphics, photography and drawings as well as an international painting collection.
Various exhibitions by young artists are exchanged monthly at the gallery.By this we give artists the opportunity to present themselves to a wider group of people,and we give visitors the opportunity to get acquainted with art outside of formal educational processes.By putting art in a place where young people spend their free time,we approach them and encourage them to creative thinking,creating.
The outdoor gallery is one of results of EU project CityImpulses in Velenje. The outdoor gallery was established to make prettier and more livefull foothpath in the center of Velenje. The visitor can see there different exhibitions from local and foreign photographs, with Velenje-themed photos. Every exhibition will take place at the outdoor gallery for aproximatly 3 months.
The entire property is a cultural monument of local significance. The cottage which also has an open fire kitchen and an outbuilding is surrounded by a meadow, kitchen and herb garden, an apiary, a vineyard and an orchard. It is believed that the cottage was constructed in the mid 19th century as a small vinedresser's house on a viniferous slope of Lipnje and Vinska Gora.
In the new space, the local photographic scene is strengthened and promoted through exhibitions, lectures, round tables, screenings and other cultural events. The program of the exhibition is also aimed at presenting contemporary domestic and international creativity in the field of photography, intermedia arts, animated and experimental films and other audio-visual creativity practices.
