Lima, founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, is a fascinating city and a treasure trove of history. Explore ancient Incan archeological sites, or stroll through the elegant cathedrals and opulent palaces dating from Spanish colonial times. Downtown Lima is crowded, but you'll enjoy exploring the city's neighborhoods—especially the beachfront areas, which have great shopping and dining and fabulous hotels.

Amazonka specializes in black pottery from the Peruvian jungle. There are only a handful of families that can still put into practice this ancient and peculiar technique. All the Amazonka pieces are made from pure white clay from the Amazon river basin, strengthened with apacharama tree bark ashes and smoked with tropical plants - 100% handmade without potter’s wheel, kiln or oven.

We visited the Choco Museo today and six of us took the bean to bar workshop with Karina. It was informative, well organized and fun! We learned about the history of chocolate, made drinks and prepared chocolate bars. We really enjoyed ourselves and Karina was excellent. Definitely would recommend you try it if you are in Lima!

My college-age daughter and I enjoyed learning about the fermenting, roasting, and processing of the beans. I loved that we got to participate in choosing beans, putting them in a roaster, peeling them, drinking tea made from the peels, pulverizing them with a mortar and pestle, making hot chocolate with that, then getting to make our own chocolate bars with various ingredients and melted chocolate. Although a bit pricey, it was a highlight of my otherwise also wonderful trip.
