Lynne Newberry Boca Raton, FL I was introduced to Cabins on the River nearly three years ago by a special friend who has been visiting for several years. His stories of this idyllic location were not exaggerated. From the very first visit, I have been impressed with Rodney and Connie’s hospitality and attention to every detail. Even on a holiday weekend, when all the cabins are occupied, they work behind the scenes to ensure every guest’s enjoyment and privacy. We can choose to remain at our cabin and enjoy the solitude along the Casselman River or venture out to nearby biking and hiking trails. We always enjoy the numerous water activities, variety of restaurants and beautifully handmade Amish crafts. No wonder guests return year after year!

Navy Lodge Pax River is open to all active duty and retirees and their guests, DoD/Civilians, Contractors on orders. We are a pet-friendly facility (call for Pet Policy) that has complimentary Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, and cable TV. We have 48 rooms, that includes Family Suites and Handicap Accessible rooms.
We decided on the spur of the moment to have a little getaway and looked at Patuxent River and the surrounding area. The Navy Lodge fitted into our plans perfectly. The location is great, central to everything we wanted to see. The room was excellent and the staff are amazing, warm, and friendly. In these Covid days of pre-packaged everything, the breakfast was really comprehensive and started our day off just right. If we find ourselves in this area again, Nany Lodge Patuxent River will be our first choice of where to stay.

As of March 2021, there is a Realtor For Sale sign in the driveway, the web site have been taken down, and the domain name is also for sale. Realtor photos show everything removed from the lodge and Steve’s dodge van being towed off the property. I figure either COVID or advancing Alzheimer’s/ Dementia got the best of the eighty year old owner.

This retreat center offers a wide array of retreats - mostly Catholic in orientation - but some that have a wider appeal. Arrangements can also be made for a personal retreat. It’s location not far from Washington DC or Baltimore makes it convenient for any time one might want to get away for some personal renewal. The rooms have queen beds and private baths. The meals - served cafeteria style- are plentiful and have some options for both carnivores and vegetarian. The grounds are lovey for a walk and, in season, there is an outdoor pool!

It was hard to find a good restaurant at Deep Creek Lake that isn't a chain, but also doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Red Run Lodge was a nice, casual restaurant that fit the bill. They are nothing fancy and are tucked back off the road with the associated inn. The service was decent and the food was good. We went on a cold evening and sat inside, but they have a view of the lake and offer outside seating. Would be nice for lunch by the lake. They have a bar that seemed to be frequented by locals or at least regular tourist that knew each other. But it wasn't in the least rowdy and also wasn't smoky.

This is the most despicable, dirty motel I have ever stayed in. The sheets were stained, the room smelled of stale smoke and we couldn’t put the heat on due to the smell. We didn’t even sleep under the sheets but used our own blankets to sleep on and under. The person checking us in wanted me to give him my credit card pin. Really! If we weren’t so tired of travelling a great distance we would have moved on. What an awful place!!

Stayed for 2 weeks, no issues at all. The room was as clean as it gets for a Patel motel and never had any security issues or noise complaints. No shady characters hanging around. Over all a really pleasent stay.
