Nestled between the Long Island Sound and Connecticut River, Saybrook Point Inn, Marina & Spa boasts the best in waterfront tranquility.
PROS: Place was very nice. Clean. Quiet. Rooms very nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and professional. Great, scenic location. CONS: Main reason I would never book here again. I made a reservation on 5/19 and pre-paid $1233.90 for 3 nights (June 2-4). 3 days later I called back to see if I could change the dates to any other weekend in June, July or August. Did not ask for a refund. Was not looking for a refund. They could hold onto the money it was just that something came up and any other weekend would have been a whole lot more convenient for me. They would not even look at other dates. I could use the stay I booked or forfeit the money. No other options, period. I expected that a hotel of this caliber charging these rates would have been a bit more accommodating. I arrived at the hotel at 4:15 (check-in is at 4) and my room was not ready. They said they would call me when it was ready but they had no idea when that would be. They did not offer me a seat in the lounge or offer anything else until that time arrived. Again, I expect a hotel of this caliber and expense to be more accommodating. At a minimum they should have offered drinks in the bar until the room was ready. Beyond that issue the Wi-Fi sucked. Had a decent signal in room 306 but no bandwith. Could get my email, but that was about it. Unable to read my morning paper online let alone try and stream a video. Soap, shampoo and conditioner were in pump bottles, which is fine, but these bottles gave only a few drops with each pump and then it would take 15 seconds for the pumper to come back up before you could push it down again. Not sure how much of this is the hotel’s fault, but at around 8:30 one morning I had a woman pounding at my door and yelling for me to let her in. I opened the door to a somewhat embarrassed women realizing she had the wrong room. She apologized and moved on. 1 minute later the desk calls my room and asks if I had locked my wife out of the room. Another minute after that two hotel employees are knocking at my door asking the same. I explained what had happened and they simply moved on.

Room was clean and had the basic things we needed such as a fridge and microwave. If I am in this area of CT this is the property I would go to for a return stay. No problems at all, a nice place to stay with friendly front desk staff.

Within walking distance to restaurants. Centrally located near Premium Outlets, Tanger Outlets, Katherine Hepburn Theater, local beaches, antique stores, and historical attractions. 'Sky' greeted my arrival with a smile, Sky was the only person at the front desk. Pier is a two story facility, stairs only. Plenty of parking on the east & south sides. Room #121. A very spacious room with a king bed. From the top of the mattress to the floor is 30" with seven pillows. The best way to get on the bed is to jump up backwards, NO joke. No carpet, just wood flooring from door to the sink. The sink is granite (I think) located outside the shower, with a metal inside. No faucet in the usual sense more like a trough handle for water. A micro & floor fridge. The micro sits atop a long two drawer cabinet. Behind the cabinet is a wall mounted flat screen. The television 's remote control was difficult to figure out, however I wasn't staying to watch television. Also is the room's coffee maker. Bathroom & shower. The room is small, needed to shut he door to sit on the toilet. Hot water for shower within five seconds, must be the hot water heater unit must be close by. The tub's floor has a build in nonskid surface. The water from the faucet comes out like Niagara Falls, however the shower head is is very smooth to the face & body, the head was adjustable. Bottles of shampoo & conditioner. Round hand soap. Shower's floor is tile. Plenty of towels. I would say the house cleaning is daily, Maga did an excellent job. There is an closed closet with eight wooden hangers. No iron/board. On arrival the A/C was off, with the room on the warm side. Turned on the A/C on, within half an hour, room was comfortably cool. Neighborhood was quiet. The nearest restaurant is the Tea Kettle-right across Boston Post Road, which serves breakfast & lunch. For breakfast try the Grits & Shrimp. Tea Kettle starts serving at 8:00 AM. Pier Blue Inn is what I call a bare bones facility. With the room's spaciousness more creature comforts could be added. I am talking about adding a desk with lamp, a separate chair, a floor lamp by the bed & a box of Puffs. The room has the potential to be a more attractive facility. The one drawback with Pier Blue is the traffic on Boston Post . If needing to turn left-west- I might have to wait 45-60 seconds before a real break in the traffic happens. While turning right no big problem. I am not saying stay here, just be prepared to wait out the traffic. Just to the east is a Daily Queen about 1/8 mile, on the same side on Boston Post Road. Would I stay again only the future knows. For a two day stay in September, price was reasonable.

I checked into your Super 8 Old Saybrook, CT location on Friday, March 4 for an annual event at Hammonasset State Park that draws hundreds of people every year during the off-season. I had requested a room on the first floor due to being in a wheelchair. When I arrived, the bed was extremely higher than any other hotel and was impossible to get in to. The ‘manager’ said there was no other room (the parking lot was empty) and gave me a step stool to use, knowing I was in a wheelchair. The first time I used it, I almost fell off. So, the rest of the night, I ended up sleeping in my wheelchair. I also asked for a late checkout and was given a sob story that they could only give me an extra hour because they have to ‘fill out a form to get compensated from corporate’. I ended up checking out very early on Saturday, March 5. Today, I called your customer service number to file a complaint and was connected to the Super 8 location. The ‘manager’ refused to give me his name and here is how the conversation went… “If the bed was too high, you should not have stayed here. We gave you a first floor room and a step stool, right? Goodbye.” And he hung up on me! Now, it takes a lot to piss me off. This did it. I will be contacting and filing a complaint with the Department of Justice – ADA.

I planned a last minute trip to bring my kids to see “A day out with Thomas” and made all arrangements online the weekend prior. I was not familiar with the area at all so I just tried to find a hotel close to the Essex train station. I’m so happy I found The Liberty Inn. I really wanted to bring our dog with us as well, and Liberty Inn states “pet friendly”. After booking the room online, I noticed that only some rooms are pet friendly, so I called to find out more info. The owner answered immediately and was super nice. I was made aware that the pet friendly room only had one king size bed rather then 2 queens as I had reserved. I was bringing my 3 kids so I had reserved the room with 2 beds. I explained the situation and the owner said “let me see what I can do and I’ll call you back”. He called me back within the hour, and had made arrangements for a roll away bed to be put into one of the pet friendly rooms so we would have enough sleeping space. Everything worked out perfectly. The room was clean, the AC worked extremely well, and the owners were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. I most definitely would come back to stay here and I will also tell my family and friends about it as well. Thank you for helping to make our weekend an extra special one :-)

After a long delay of almost six years, we were finally able to return to the Old Saybrook Econo Lodge and we weren't disappointed. This family-run business has been carefully renovated with carpetless hardwood no-smoking rooms, queen- and king-size beds, all-new bathroom fixtures, a spotless swimming pool and all the usual expected in-room amenities: free WiFi, large flatscreen t.v., refrigerator, microwave, air conditioner, etc. And it's pet friendly! This Econo Lodge is set back from the road next to a large pond graced by a beautiful Victorian gazebo and watched over by a swan sculpture perched on a large rock outcropping. On weekends, you can help yourself to a generous breakfast of do-it-yourself fresh waffles, fresh fruit, muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee or tea and apple or orange juice. Nearby day trips can include Foxwoods and Mohegan casinos, the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (known as "the Kate"), the seaport town of Mystic with a great aquarium and nearby day or sunset sailing cruises, and gorgeous Hammonassett Beach. Perhaps the nicest feature are the live-in owners and long-time staff, who are always so welcoming and make you feel right at home. We'll be back!
