Exceptional service.

We arrived early and was able to check in early which was lovely. The staff at the front desk were warm and friendly. I was particularly impressed that we had been upgraded as diamond members without even having to request it by Frankie ( as I have to most of the time) and we were offered a snack and drink. The room itself was spacious, very clean, and I liked the overall design. The bed was comfortable with a huge TV. The staff here go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and it was honestly some of the best service I have ever had from any Hilton Hotel and at a reasonable price. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Last minute Saturday evening

We really felt welcome at this hotel & the bar area had a lovely atmosphere when we entered.. We had travelled from the southwest for a family gathering on the Sunday. Mellor is a quiet & pleasant Lancashire village & this public house is the Thwaites flagship establishment with a sense of pride which comes across with the attentive staff. On arrival we were quite weary & looking forward to our dinner so we went directly to our ground floor room (23) along the corridor & instead of showering decided to head back to the bar as the room was a bit cold. It was a smart clean room with a lovely Hypnos bed but if you want a bright room with a view it wouldn’t suit you. The bathroom was simple, spotless with a not very powerful rain shower & hand shower attachment. A very charming member of staff came over to us after I mentioned the chill in room & put a heater in for us whilst we were having a drink in the bar. He mentioned something about an engineer coming. Dinner was lovely with friendly service staff. If I book again I’ll ask for a table in the main bit of the restaurant where there looked to be more atmosphere. We got a dinner b&b rate for £135 for the night & it was worth every penny .. great food & super breakfast! For a last minute it was a lucky find on a busy Saturday & we will stay again but would hope for an upper floor room with a more modern bathroom .. need a stronger shower please.. Just one more thing which isn’t anything against the meticulous cleaning that obviously takes place here but the strong smell of disinfectant in the bedroom reminded me a lot of my late mothers care home & it lingered even after I opened the window so not sure what happened here? Maybe just an association I have but it affected my enjoyment a bit. Lovely checkout & a great team of people keeping this place popular. As I said we will return whenever we are visiting our friends & family in the North as it’s the nicest food, service & comfort we’ve ever had in the area & we’ve stayed at a lot of places ! ??

Great value for money. I arrived 2 hours before book in, but a lovely girl at reception got me all sorted with room key and all the information I needed. My grandson loved the little play area in the hotel grounds. Nice comfy bed and spacious clean room. I only removed a star because I could only find one power point. Not great when you have mobile phones and tablets to charge, but even so, this is where I will choose to stay in future when I come to visit my family. Lovely friendly staff.

DO NOT STAY HERE!

Reviewed By KazDevon

My partner and I walked into our room in this hotel and walked back out again. We did not stay! This hotel is terrible, please take my advice and find somewhere else. The hotel is situated in what appeared to be a pretty rough area. On the sign outside it advertises "car parking". What you actually get is on-street parking and, to be honest, I was very concerned about leaving my car anywhere in this area overnight. On approach to the hotel, we noticed that an upstairs window had been smashed. We walked into a grubby reception area that didn't smell too fresh. The man working there informed us that we had to book ourselves in via a scanned code plus we had to upload an ID. We were then shown to our room. We walked up quite a few steps to get to the room and on the way we noticed some heavily stained carpets. The smell became worse as we got further into the hotel. We got inside our room and the smell just hit us. It was absolutely disgusting, it was the type of smell that you could actually taste! It was like stale cigarettes but a lot worse. God knows what had gone on previously in that room! We opened the window in an attempt to try and air the room. The window was frosted so we couldn't even see out! The room was grubby and felt so unclean, that I didn't even want to put my bag down anywhere. There were marks on the walls, paint peeling off from everywhere, cobwebs in the bathroom, stains on the door, stains on the carpet, ill fitting blue lino in the bathroom. There was no fancy lampshade in our room just a single naked bulb and the bed headboard wasn't even fitted to the bed, it was just placed on the floor behind the bed. The bed and sheets appeared clean but there was no way we were going to risk it! We had seen and smelt enough! We picked up our things and left. On arrival back in the reception we noticed a woman, who appeared to know the man on reception, and she was stood there smoking and walked back through the hotel whilst still smoking. This hotel is absolutely awful, one of the worst I have ever stayed in.

Lovely Victorian B&B

Reviewed By 65PaulD65

I had been walking the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath and Blackburn is where my walk ended. After a week of mainly hotels with horrible breakfasts it was a pleasure to come to a real B&B where you get a good proper Welcome. I arrived at Midday and luckily Suhel was still at home before going to the gym. A great welcome from him before he left for his workout. Later he recommended and indian restaurant 15 mins walk up the road which turned out to be excellent. My room was a bit small, it had a double bed but was probably only suitable for a single person. This had been booked by my walk company. The shower and toilet were seperate though there is a hand basin in the room. Other rooms are ensuite aparently. Great Victorian features in the room including the basin with brass taps and a great view across the city. I had the delicious indian breakfast which is a spicy vegetable omelete. I am dairy and gluten intolerant so Suhel had bought in soya milk and gluten free bread. I really had a great time staying here. Would recommend for a great welcome. Not sure about the canal though.
