Hostel du Nord is excited to be the first of its kind in Duluth, offering an experience like no other: Affordable, stylish comfort in the heart of the city. Our staff will be ready to provide you with a personalized experience, and connect you to whatever activities inspire you — whether that be outdoor adventures, historic landmarks, music hotspots, craft brews, homegrown dining, or the best views of the world’s biggest lake.
As someone who isn't able to check in at most hotels due to the minimum age limit, Hostel du Nord was a great last-minute find on Airbnb. I only stayed the night due to me needing a lot of rest after spending the whole day in public transit all the way from Minneapolis in order to prevent myself from getting stranded due to snowstorms. Bob is an incredibly great and accommodating host, and I was also able to meet a couple of other people (and the official hostel cat!) in the common area late at night. He showed me around the best he could during quiet hours, and the bunks provided a lot of privacy for me to rest my head for the night. The bathrooms were very clean and functional and not to mention that the place probably is one of the quietest and most relaxing places I ever stayed at. Had I stayed longer, I probably would've met a handful of others who were staying there as well, because the community aspect is something I really look for in a place to stay, and from what I felt from my very short stay, you matter. I am definitely coming back here again if I ever get the chance. PS: Don't mix up the Annex and the Hostel! Very understandable when it's winter-time and it's late at night. You'll find the place eventually, though it may take a couple of minutes. Consider it an adventure to a new world.

Hungry Hippie Hostel is located just a short drive from the town of Grand Marais, MN. Nestled in the hillside overlooking Lake Superior, on the edge of the wilderness, the Hungry Hippie Hostel is a great place to relax after a day of play along the shore! A hostel is a budget orientated, sociable accommodation that is shared among individual travelers and groups for short term stays. We provide common areas and shared facilities with our two and a half bathrooms, cozy lounge, and a primitive kitchenette with a refrigerator, hot plate, microwave and sink. The Hungry Hippie Hostel provides individual bunks and a group room in our bunkhouse loft, or private rooms fully furnished with a queen sized bed at a budget friendly price. Many hostels are located in remarkable buildings. Ours is in our beautiful refurbished barn on our small family farm in Grand Marais.
As a skier I always considered hostels bunkbeds everybody using the same bathroom, snoring, gas, and just a plain college dorm hang out type of a place. But this is much more modern with a beautiful equipped room ceiling fan and a nice queen bed great heat and the bathrooms are gorgeous all the type of coffee that you need. If this place had king beds I would definitely take my wife here. The view of the lake is stupendous and it’s only about a half hour from the most from Lutsen Ski area which is why I’m here. I feel excellent value and just a big change from normal chain operations or double the price in this area if not more. I think there are about six rooms and the role furnaced a little differently as far as the type of room the name of it but my room has maps of Lake superior Isle Royale and it’s just such a neat place give it a try for sure.

This B&B features private rooms (rooms sleep 1-4, many with private bath), kitchen-access, meeting rooms, and large lower-level retreat space. Beautiful antique furniture and modern amenities in all rooms and baths. We have complimentary WiFi, outdoor decks, campfire area, beautiful grounds, and this is a great location for retreats or family reunions/events, and an antique store adjacent to the property.
Our host, Mary greeted us so warmly and checked in periodically asking if we needed anything. The property was beautiful, clean, and super comfortable. All the staff were helpful and kind. We loved the awesome travel treasures throughout the property from years of travel Mary has collected! Yoga on the deck was uplifting, sunset canoeing was magical around the islands of Lake Vermilion. We also learned a lot from the local Soudan mine tour. We will come back again for sure and bring friends! Thanks Mary, Margaret, and the rest of the gang! :)

Winter/Spring/Fall: Open weekends only - Summer: Open daily.
We've visited the headwaters many times, but never in winter. The outdoor club MN Rovers have been reserving this hostel for the President's Day weekend for some years and we decided to join them. The place is cozy, historic, and welcoming. Rooms are hostel style. We stayed in a room with a double bed (we were the only married couple on the trip) with two other women in bunks. Because the focus is on getting outdoors, we felt we had plenty of space to enjoy. The snow was amazing and the trails snowy. We walked to the Headwaters, enjoyed a night of lantern lit trails and folk music at the public shelter at the headwaters. We recommend this for people who love to enjoy winter activities. The park is marvelous and the space delightfully homey.

Absolutely amazing! I stayed here while seeing tge Rolling Stones in October 2021, and thank God I never read any reviews. It's nothing like what other folks are saying as it has been completely overhauled and remodeled during the pandemic. It's the perfect blend of turn of the 20th century, business tycoon mansion, and hyper modern convenience. The app you download, opens all the doors. The kitchen and bathrooms are excellent and clean. I've stayed at a about dozen hostels over the years, and this was at top of the bunch. Can't recommend enough.
