Natwange Backpackers is awesome! It's small, fun, clean and homely and offers winning free extras like: unlimited WiFi, full breakfast, swimming pool and more. We have the best location, just a few minute's walk from East Park mall, Arcades and Manda Hill Mall. Rooms are extra comfortable And vary from budget dormitories, Private double/twins and en-suite rooms. If you are tired of all the other noisy and crowded backpackers, come to visit with us and have an unforgettable stay in Lusaka.
Having stayed at many Branded hotels in Lusaka....this place is by far the best value for the money! Its a family run boutique hotel, where the owners and staff are super friendly and always around to answer questions or or help with any needs. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, with little touches that make it seem as if your staying at a home rather than a hotel. Lush wide open spaces inside will make you feel like your in the country not the city.

We booked a room to rest in for the afternoon before returning to Lusaka airport late at night. It was perfectly adequate and we were able to buy a snack and get pizza delivered from East Park mall. Our room had a shower

Spacious executive chalets, ideal for business travelers from overseas or shopping excursions from the farm. Tanuger House is prominently located around the corner from Manda Hill, Lusaka's premier shopping mall, with easy access to restaurants, entertainment and transport.
This guest house was a good choice for basic accomodation for a couple of days. The staff were very friendly. Functioning WiFi and Aircon (when there is not a power cut affecting most of zambia currently). The breakfast was very average with very limited options, I would recommend eating elsewhere. Value for money would be difficult to judge as it seems Lusaka lacks basic 'economy' options, so perhaps this is the right choice.

We arrived in Lusaka after a 50 hour train ride from Dar es Salaam followed by a very uncomfortable 3 hour ride in a packed mini van. We had no idea how long the train would take as there doesn’t seem to be a standard arrival time, so we hadn’t booked a room. The first place we went was full, so our taxi driver suggested this place. We were utterly exhausted so just agreed. The receptionist was just ice cold and he room was only half finished being renovated. It smelt of paint, the tiling in the shower wasn’t finished and there were loose electrical wires hanging down in the shower where a light should have been. But hey there was a bed and that was all we cared about, what’s a little electrocution? My partner went out to the bar to have a beer and chill out a bit, but the bar staff was really rude to him for daring to ask for a drink and then couldn’t give him change from 50 Kwacha even though there was a bar full of people drinking. She made him get the 10 Kwacha for the beer and water from the money we paid for the room and told him he had to pay it back in the morning. The next morning while he was out trying to get change, some guy came knocking at our door looking for the 10 Kwacha. He said he had lent my partner the money for the beer and needed the cash back. I had no idea who he was and it made no sense. Turned out they took the 10 from this guy. Place is just weird.

Nice staff and location for this hostel, but it's pretty worn out and too many animals wondering around (dogs, goats, chickens) for us. Would probably not stay here again when there are better options in the area. The pool is more of a green pond and while the AC worked in our room, we had to threaten to leave to get a remote to control it. This place is probably fine if you need a cheap crash pad. That said, it was quiet at night and the owner (British) and his wife (Zambian) are very helpful. ADDENDUM: How to get from Lusaka to Lake Malawi and back by bus/car. I'm publishing our account of travel from Lusaka Zambia to Lake Malawi (in Malawi of course) because there are many details can can cause problems. 1. There are bus lines (large coaches) that depart the "Inter-city bus terminal" in Lusaka at 5, 6 and 7 am each day and go to Chipata (eastern end of Zambia near Malawi border), 7.5 hours (they tell you 6 hours, but it takes 7.5 both ways!) 2. There are several companies, we took Jonda because we read it is reliable. 3. Buy your tickets the day before if you want a reserved seat. Otherwise, show up 45 min to 1 hour before departure time and buy tickets on the spot. 250 Zambian per person. No credit cards. 4. The bus station is a mess and you will be swarmed by touts and taxi drivers etc. A firm "NO" to those trying to carry your luggage does the trick. 5. Avoid resellers (touts) of tickets and buy from the Jonda Bus Tours office only! It is called "Jonda Office Lsk" on Google maps. 6. Our bus east to Chipata left on time, but our return bus from Chipata to Lusaka left 1 hour late. 7. Bring snacks and water. The bus takes a 10 min potty break at the half way point. Local food stalls are selling some stuff, but it is a bit unappealing. Bring your own toilet paper as well. Sun screen if you sit by the window is also good. It gets hot by noon and the windows are open. No AC or toilet on the bus. 8. The bus seats are split into 2 one one side of the aisle and 3 on the other. Grab a 2 seat combo if alone or a 3 seat combo if with a partner for greater comfort. Neither bus we took was more than 50% full. 9. When you arrive at the small bus station in Chipata, you will be swarmed again. We stayed overnight in Chipata to break up the trip. A taxi to local hotels (5-8 min away) should only be 30 Zambian during the day. We stayed at the Crossroads Lodge and it was fine. Restaurant/bar and AC in all rooms. About 450 Zambian (credit cards accepted). There are cheaper places if needed, but not many accept internet bookings! 10. In Chipata there are a few shops and cool open air dance club called "Blue Gums" (after the Blue Gum trees on the property) that was good fun from 9pm on. They have food too. 11. The next morning take a taxi for 100 Zambian to the Malawi border (your hotel can arrange a driver they trust). It's only about 20 minutes. Note the drivers like to ask for half up front to buy fuel. They also get stopped by police and ours had to pay off the police to keep going (normal here). He asked us to contribute to the pay-off. Refuse! I quickly learned that if you wave at the police at the police check points (frequent) and smile, they tend to wave the driver on. They don't want to cause foreigners problems. 12. At the border, ignore all the money changers and those trying to carry your bags for a tip (unless you are into that!) and go the Zambian Immigration office where you get stamped out. Takes 5 min or less. 13. Then keep walking another 50m to the Malawi Immigration office. Here you fill out 2 forms and buy your visa. Note that we read a single entry tourist visa is $50 USD, but they charge $75. Have US or Malawi money ready. No credit cards. 14. Once finished, you can negotiate with taxi drivers outside to take you to Lilongwe Malawi, about an hour or 120 Km. We paid ours $35. Be firm! 15. Our driver took us to our hotel in Lilongwe where we stayed 1 night to break up the trip. 16. We hired a driver (recommended by our hotel) to take us to Monkey Bay on Lake Malawi the next day. The trip takes 3.5 hours. We paid 80,000 Malawi ($110 USD as of 2/20/19). Note that you can take a bus from Lilongwe to Salima and then another to Monkey Bay, but we opted for a car/driver. The Malawi countryside is beautiful and one advantage of a car/driver is that you can stop for photos where you wish. The driver we used is named Arvant or Albert? (spelling?) and is highly recommended for taxi rides in Lilongwe or to other destinations: +265 999 91 08 40. Tell him you got his number from Peter from California! 17. After our visit to Lake Malawi (Monkey Bay and Cape MaClear) we called Arvant to come down and pick us up. This time we had him take us all the way to the Zambia border for 120,000 Malawi ($165 USD).
