All Saints Church

Reviewed By 492DaveP - Portsmouth, United Kingdom

All Saints Church dominates the town of Marlow when entering via the historic Marlow Suspension Bridge (the latter constructed in 1860 at a total cost of £22,000). This (CoE) church was originally built around or before the 1100s, but completely demolished – the main reason being constant flooding of the Thames River – and replaced in 1832 by the Gothic-style church still there today. Featuring beautiful Victorian stained glass windows and an impressive Willis organ dating back to 1876, the church has for centuries been an historically prominent component of the town’s fabric. Points of interest include wall monuments, the oldest to William and Ketheryne Willoughby and family, d. 1597. Definitely recommend a visit.

Marlow Place

I have always visited Marlow Place, but as a local, we know it as “Liston Court” so if you ask for directions ask for Liston Court! It’s a lovely little plaza just off the high street but with plenty of through traffic for people watching. There’s a gorgeous florists, where you cannot just browse, a few clothes shops and Satollo; an Italian cafe during the day and an Italian restaurant by night. Satollo is run solely by Italians so the coffee, pastries and food is all amazing and it’s a great place to sit (outside or in) and watch the world go by, work (as many people seem to do) or just enjoy a catch up with friends. It is very dog friendly, with dogs allowed j side and out and my dog will often be given a treat of ham or cheese. (He has great puppy-dog eyes which have never failed him yet). The plaza also contains Roccoco; a tiny little jewellery shop which is run by the most knowledgeable women I have ever met. They will always be able to help with gifts, browsing or a treat for yourself and will go out of their way to help you. They are also one of the only jewellery shops in Bucks to stock Nomination bracelets and again, will order you any link they do not have in stock. A lovely place to mooch or sit on a sunny day in Marlow.
