If you are into wines and have some time come to Montevideo Wine Experience (MWE). I spent 6 nights in Montevideo before and after visiting several bodegas and each evening I came to MWE. So I can say I had lots of 'experience' at this fabulous wine bar. I hope you are lucky enough to meet Nico and Liber on your visit. If not Diego and Alesandro (Ales) will be very happy to serve you. They all speak English. It seems Thursday evening are live music night which can be very busy as the music at MWE is always excellent. I did two different tasting which were both paired with great cheese, meat and bread. If you enjoy good red wines but not sure what to order live it up and order Los Nadies 2011 Equilibrio made by Manuel Filgueira. MWE is just a great spot to hang out, enjoy the wines, meet very interesting people and then if you are still hungry go across the street to Es Mercat for a fabulous seafood dinner. Thank you guys at MWE for making my time in the capital city a special and unique experience.

Exceptionel surrounding where you´ll be able to connect with nature, enjoying the vineyards and more than 6000 m² of park. You will be able to visit te XIX century built cellar, with its awesome arquitecture and the seal of French craftmen, which is now enhanced with technology to help produce high quality wines. Lying underground, the impressive CAVA with its solid stone walls and natural control of temperature and humidity, has the ideal conditions to grow our wines. Our RESTAURANT MonfrA (which in Piedmontese means Monferrato) offer a unique gourmet experience in an exceptional place, where family celebrations and lunches were held. In this way we honor our history by recalling the culinary traditions of the family, with the wood fire, the fresh ingredients of the garden and the love in the preparation of each dish.

Lovely family winery with totally engaged staff. We participated in a cooking lesson followed by a wonderful lunch featuring their beautiful Sauvignon and Tannat wines and traditional Uruguayan lunch. The owner Alexandra was our lovely host all day and communicated with our group in English, Spanish , Italian and even in French with my spouse. Highly recommended for a true Bodega experience.

Palacio Taranco

This impressive 20th-century building was designed by French architects and now houses a decorative arts museum with Uruguayan furniture, clocks, paintings and more.

This beautiful early 20th century palace, reminiscent of Versailles, now houses a decorative arts museum with Uruguayan furniture, clocks, paintings, and the most amazing colorfully-painted pianos imaginable. It looked like a baroque palace with lovely intricate plasterwork, beautiful wood floors, and hand-loomed rugs. It is truly a hidden gem—and entrance is free! All of the rooms—upstairs and down—were beautifully decorated and looked like a place that someone of great wealth had really lived. It even displayed family photographs and other personal items of the original owners. This was my favorite site in all of Montevideo. Don’t miss it!

The museum is a great honour to the 29 who perished and a lesson to us all that life is not a gift but should be deserved. With its combination of storytelling, science and insight into the human spirit it has something for everybody. This is one of the best curated museums I have ever visited. Thank you Jörg!

Escaramuza Libros

Reviewed By syndicato - Montevideo, Uruguay

Escaramuza is a kind of a melting pot of literature, gastronomy and architecture. Saturday at noon is the ideal place in Montevideo to find local artists with their families. The bookstore has a very good selection of art, photography, architecture, children’s books as well as universal literature. The kitchen is at affordable prices and excellent quality. I recommend the beet pie with goat cheese. The service of the staff is very warm. Without a doubt, if culture is not alien to you, Escaramuza is a must see in Montevideo.

Museo del Tango - La Cumparsita

Reviewed By Moodandmystery - New York City, United States

Our guide Paula was professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! The museum is located on the site where tango was first danced in Montevideo. You feel the ambience in this well-designed space. The tour is just 20-30 minutes, but so full of info! I can’t recommend this enough!
